SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ralphs grocery stores are extending their hours to help seniors and provide greater flexibility for the general public, according to Director of Corporate Affairs John Votava.All stores will open at 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. for shoppers 60 years and older. "They're the most vulnerable population out there today, so we want to make sure they have time to come into our stores and shop uninhibited," Votava said.Locations will remain open to the public until at least 10 p.m., some will stay open later.Ralphs is also offering free pharmacy delivery for most locations and free pickup service for most grocery orders. Families took advantage of the pickup service Sunday at the Ralphs in Mission Valley. "I think it's going to make people feel comfortable shopping in a different way. If you can order online or call it in for sure," Tim Earp said through a mask.Votava said they're working on other safety features to protect customers and their employees. Plexiglass will be installed next week at checkout counters, and decals are already on the floor to encourage social distancing at checkout.Votava also said employees are allowed to wear masks and gloves while they work.He does have one request for anyone in the store, "if you see a senior who is shopping throughout the day, please let them cut to the front of the line so they can get in and out of the store safely."Votava said this is the new normal for now, and the store hours will reflect that indefinitely. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Results of an audit show the City of San Diego has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in liability claims.From 2010 to 2018, the city had 20,000 liability claims, which has resulted in 0 million in public liability costs. That translates to about million per year to settle or resolve these claims.At the top of that list, as far as the number of cases, involves city vehicle accidents with 2,075 claims, where the city paid .7 million. Also included in this list are trips and falls, with 931 claims and the city paid .7 million towards those liability costs.The City Auditor’s Office also made recommendations to reduce the number of claims. When it comes to trips and falls, they suggested the city focus on fixing the sidewalks in high pedestrian areas. Their data has found people are four times as likely to trip and fall in those areas of the damage to the sidewalk.When it comes to accidents involving city drivers, they believe there needs to be more training for them.The report will now be forwarded over to the City Council for review. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are investigating how a teenager ended up unconscious near a Walgreens store in Chollas View after her mother reported the girl had been kidnapped.The 13-year-old girl's mother called police shortly after 4 p.m. Monday and said her daughter was supposed to be at a friend’s house, but she later learned her daughter somehow ended up with a man she didn’t know.It is unclear how the woman determined her daughter was with the man.About 20 minutes later, police found the teen unconscious but breathing in the 600 block of Euclid Avenue. She was taken to the hospital, but her condition is unknown.Police said they are looking for the man that was believed with the teen. He is described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, with long hair. He was wearing reading glasses, a white T-shirt and possibly a black baseball cap. 860

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released video footage of an officer-involved shooting involving a man who was arrested and reportedly stole a gun out of an officer's backpack Sunday.The footage includes bodycam video from officers inside the police station's sally port, as well as surveillance footage of the parking area.Police say a 25-year-old Hispanic man, later identified as Keith Bergman, was arrested shortly after 6:20 p.m. after an incident at a downtown San Diego hotel on Sunday. A hotel security guard reported the man was “acting strange” and threatening others.Bergman was evaluated for being under the influence and arrested, according to SDPD. Police say they found methamphetamine and five credit cards that didn't belong to him in his pockets.See the video in the player above (If the video doesn't appear below, click here)Officers brought Bergman to SDPD headquarters. Just after 8 p.m., police said the suspect somehow freed one hand from his handcuffs while inside the patrol SUV, and then broke a divider that separates the prisoner seat area from the cargo area.Police said Bergman found an officer’s backpack that contained a backup handgun. When officers returned to check on the suspect, he was still in the vehicle but armed with a gun, according to SDPD.Officers drew their weapons and gave Bergman verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he refused and fired at least one round from the gun, police said.The officers felt threatened, police said, and at least one round was fired at Bergman, hitting him in the torso.Bergman reached out of the vehicle's window and opened the door to exit while he was still armed, police said, adding that he tried to open the rear cargo compartment of the SUV and the driver's door, refusing orders to stop in the process.RELATED: San Diego Police: Suspect shot by officers after finding officer's gun in patrol SUVPolice eventually released a service dog to subdue Bergman, and police moved in to arrest him.Officers provided first aid at the scene and Bergman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to SDPD.San Diego Police also identified the three officers involved in the shooting as Paul Yi, a six-year veteran of the department, Michael Rodriguez, who has been with the department for 10 months, and Timothy Arreola, an eight-year veteran of the department. After the department's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will look at the incident to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions. The Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an investigation, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers. The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also monitor the investigation. 2982
