SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Wednesday arrested a woman they say vandalized a church Monday afternoon. Kelly Duggan, 26, was arrested after police say she caused more than ,000 worth of damage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.10News Reporter Bree Steffen Reach out Duggan, who agreed to a jailhouse interview. Duggan told us that she's in an emotional state, heartbroken over her mother's death. "I don't know what's going on anymore, and that's what's making me mad," she said. "I'll still pay for it, that's fine."According to authorities, Duggan threw a wooden kneeler at a Plexiglas window protecting a religious shrine, breaking both the kneeler and the glass.Duggan also destroyed several flower vases decorating the shrine before leaving the church, police say. She was arrested for felony vandalism after being spotted in Barrio Logan.Duggan said she didn't vandalize the church out of disrespect or hate for the faith. The church told 10News they caught Duggan's action on their surveillance cameras but didn't share the video because they worried that people who saw might harm her. Duggan had this message for the church: "Thank you for forgiving me, you know, out of the kindness of your heart."  1265

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — October historically spells fire danger for San Diego and Cal Fire is asking everyone to be ready.The Cedar Fire started Oct. 25, 2003, and burned 280,278 acres. The Witch Creek-Guejito and Harris Fires started Oct. 21, 2007, and burned 288,430 acres. People lost their lives in both fires.Cal Fire Captain Issac Sanchez said it's extremely important San Diegans are prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. "Be ready to evacuate, have your defensible clearance space done. Not only do it, but do it responsibly. Do it first thing in the morning when temperatures are low and humidity levels are relatively high," Sanchez said.The weather contributes to a dangerous cocktail, increasing October's potency."You have that combination of fuel and weather really giving a one-two punch to us pretty consistently," Sanchez said.The Valley Fire in September reminded San Diegans of how quickly a spark can grow out of control and how fast evacuations can happen.Next week's weather doesn't look good, according to Sanchez. "It's going to be warm, it's going to be dry and there's going to be some sort of wind blowing from the east," says Sanchez. "That's the kind of combination that gets folks nervous around here."The good news is firefighters are coming home from working in northern California and will be standing by, in addition to Marines and Sailors."A strike team of Type 6 Fire Engines is just getting back to San Diego from the Creek Fire in Fresno," Sanchez said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of the most controversial developments in San Diego's recent history is now welcoming its first residents.The One Paseo development has leased about 60 of its planned 608 housing units, most of which are still under construction.The complex aims to put everything within the reach of its residents in a live, work, play environment. The model units are even staged to make the most discriminating apartment shopper feel right at home. The fridge is stocked with sodas, candy, snacks, and even beer. "If you come here, it's like living on a vacation everyday," said Jay Rey-Hiplito, Kilroy's vice president. "We've got pools, we've got fitness centers, if you're into the best restaurants, you can walk right across the street."RELATED: One Paseo set to open in Carmel Valley following numerous setbacksOne Paseo packs 608 housing units into three buildings just south of Del Mar Heights Road. Rey-Hipolito says with San Diego's supply crunch, renters are willing to live in dense apartment complexes like One Paseo. He says they are increasingly looking at the housing units as places where they rest, spending their leisure time and entertaining at the amenities. The complex includes two pools (one saltwater), a community room, and an expansive gym. In all, that's why he believes the price is right for the units. Studios start at ,350 a month, and the model two-bedroom, at 1,058 square feet, goes for between ,600 and ,800 a month."Instead of looking at price, it's important to focus on value," Rey-Hiploito said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a gunman after a teenager was shot Friday night outside of a movie theater in Escondido.The shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. at the Regal Cinema on West Valley Parkway in Escondido.Police say the victim was shot in the calf and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The shooting is believed to be related to fight among a group of teenagers in the strip mall.They are now reviewing surveillance video in their investigation of the incident. 513

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly one week after Election Day and with state Assemblyman Todd Gloria holding a comfortable lead, City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry conceded in the race for San Diego mayor.As of Nov. 9 vote totals, Gloria was leading Bry 56% to 46%.During a virtual press conference on Monday, Bry said she called Gloria the day before and offered her congratulations. Regarding the campaign, Bry said she felt voters were misled by the media and political ads from the opposition.Bry said, "I want to congratulate Todd Gloria as the next mayor of San Diego. He and I spoke by phone yesterday, and I offered him my congratulations. But for the next few years, our city faces many challenges because of COVID-19, and Mr. Gloria will have a tough job. Thousands of San Diegans are unemployed through no fault of their own and city revenues are declining."She added, "I wish those issues could have been more central to the mayoral campaign. We certainly tried to make them the focus of our communications. Unfortunately, interest groups supporting my opponent took a different approach.Perhaps inspired by the ‘fake news’ rhetoric coming out of Washington, they spent over million on TV commercials and mailers cynically designed to fool voters into thinking they were sponsored by our campaign. In times past, dishonest advertising of that sort would have been called out by responsible journalists, and voters would have been made aware of these cynical tactics. But the media -- like many citizens -- has become so desensitized to such tactics that they no longer pique their interest. And, unfortunately, these dishonest attacks clearly impacted our campaign."When asked if she would run for mayor again, Bry said she may not seek public office again. She added she plans to take time off with her family before her next endeavor.Bry, 71, will remain on the San Diego City Council until Dec. 10.
