SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric says it may cut power to some 1 million people this weekend in central and Northern California, which could see the most dangerous fire weather of the season. PG&E says it could begin safety shutoffs Sunday morning as gusts and low humidity ramp up the risk of downing power lines and sparking massive fires in tinder-dry brush. The shutoffs in 38 counties could last into Tuesday. PG&E equipment has been blamed for sparking some of the most devastating fires in recent years, including a 2018 blaze in Butte County that killed 85 people. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego couple woke up to find guns pointed in their face inside their own home. The home invasion happened on the 3200 block of Bramson Place just before 7 a.m. on Monday. Officers say the couple was sleeping when they found the suspects inside their home. The suspects were masked and one of them also had a knife. Police say the burglars put the knife to the man's throat, cutting him several times. Neighbors were too afraid to talk on camera but told 10News said they heard all of the commotion. One witness said they saw the two men running towards a nearby parking lot and getting into a red car. Police don't have a suspect description since the suspects were wearing masks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- San Diego County barely avoided falling back into the purple tier of the state’s reopening system, staying in the red for now.The color-coded tier system has been difficult for many business owners to deal with as they wonder if they will face more restrictions in the coming weeks.“We are working with the state to share our concerns and thoughts about the metrics they are using to put our county in the different tiers,” said Greg Cox, San Diego County Supervisor. "The reality is we remain at risk of being moved to the more restrictive tier in the future if we don’t do those things that we know we need to do.”Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer, said she and other health officers across the state have been pushing for the state to improve its metrics system to go beyond case rate and positivity rate.She would like to see three things happen.“If counties are maintaining hospitalizations and hospital capacities to somehow get credit for that, and also get credit for contact tracing,” she said.Wooten said the county should also get credit for providing access to COVID-19 testing in vulnerable communities hit the hardest.“San Diego has done an excellent job to date of getting access to testing in those communities that are hit the hardest,” she said.On Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors passed a motion in a 4 to 1 vote to send a letter to the state backing Wooten’s effort in revising the reopening criteria.Wooten is urging members of the public to continue wearing a facial covering, washing hands, avoiding large gatherings, and staying home when sick, especially as flu season is on the way.“We do not have a vaccine for COVID-19, but we have a vaccine for the flu,” she said. “Getting the flu vaccine is the most important step in preventing the flu.” 1822

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The 2019-2020 cruise season is officially underway in San Diego, and the Port of San Diego expects thousands of visitors to the region, having a significant economic impact on the city.The Port has 104 cruise calls scheduled, which is up from last year's numbers. Approximately 338,000 passengers will be on the cruises and Port officials say each home ported call has an average of million in economic impact."That doesn't just mean spending money on food and shopping, but that can be maintenance, repairs and things to the ship," said Adam Deaton, with the Port's cruise business development."It's a great, great uptick for San Diego's economy," said Deaton. "We're not in the summer so it's kind of the down season, so cruise is a great pick me up for the winter and fall months."The season began Tuesday with the arrival of luxury ship Le Soleal, from French Cruise company, Ponant.Also this season, Holland America, Disney Cruise, and Carnival Cruise Lines will be featured. Carnival has not been in San Diego since 2011 and its return was much anticipated.The Carnival Miracle will be at the Port starting in December for 12 trips including Mexican Riviera, Hawaiian Island, Baja Mexico and Panama Canal cruises.Starting October 4, Disney Cruise Line will offer 16 cruises from the Port of San Diego. Gavin Newsom declared an emergency Tuesday over wildfires burning throughout California as the state's power grid operator pleaded for continued conservation to avoid rolling blackouts. The grid operator praised residents and businesses for astonishing conservation efforts that kept the power on Monday night. The state is in a days-long heatwave that has stressed the electrical system and resulted in rolling blackouts over two nights last weekend. Outages, excessive heat, wildfire and the pandemic have people on edge. Evacuations were in effect or growing in several Northern California communities because of growing fires. Newsom demanded an investigation into two smaller weekend blackouts. 733
