SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are looking for a driver involved in a two-car crash that injured pedestrians Tuesday night.The crash happened at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street near Balboa Park. One couple said they were headed to the Haunted Trail at Balboa Park and were waiting to cross the street when they saw two cars headed for them.“I just saw the headlights going towards me, and if I didn't dodge that car, I would have been pinned on that tree. When I fell on the floor I saw that car slam on that tree,” one of the pedestrians said.  Police say a white Toyota was headed south on Sixth Avenue and as it was crossing the intersection of Laurel Street, it was hit by a blue Honda that was making a left turn onto Sixth Avenue.  The driver of the Toyota stayed on scene, but police say the driver of the Honda took off.Officers did not have a very description of the driver, and it’s unclear if there were passengers in their car.  Police say three people were transported to the hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People living along the coast in north county say they can't remember the last time mosquitoes were so bad.Sharon Mauro lives near the San Elijo Lagoon in Solana Beach."Oh, we couldn't leave the house without them attacking us," said Mauro.She hired Tony Gallardo of Mosquito Joe to spray her property."The last few weeks have been very busy. Basically, from the coastline all the way to Poway, the mosquito problem is pretty significant right now," said Gallardo.Gallardo says he sprays roughly 15 homes a day."This is kind of a perfect storm in everybody is stuck at home now, they want to be outside. The kids are getting tired of being inside. You get outside the mosquitos are eating everybody up, they're breeding cause they have more food, strange way to put it," said Gallardo.San Diego County Vector Control crews sprayed the lagoon last week. They also discovered a new trouble spot."A new spot showed up, and we didn't find until it was a wee bit too late. We do have it treated now, so it's going to be a one-time event," said Chris Conlan, the county's supervising vector ecologist.Conlan said the recent high tides contributed to the increase in mosquitoes."Whenever we get a very high tide event, especially something like a King Tide, as the water recedes from those high tide events sometimes leaves standing pools, and this mosquito is very good at taking advantage of that," said Conlan.Conlan said the Black Salt Marsh Mosquito doesn't transmit disease, but it's an aggressive "day biter," and can travel up to five miles.Residents worried about mosquitos near their property should contact the county's vector control program. 1675

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Portions of San Diego County are gearing up for more dry, windy weather as a red flag warning and potential power outages loom.According to the National Weather Service, the warning goes into effect from 4 a.m. Monday through 10 p.m. Tuesday for the mountains and valleys.The agency says east winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour and isolated gusts up to 60 miles per hour.RELATED: Check your local forecastHumidity will also be low, with values around 10%, the agency said Sunday.“Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning should be avoided,” the National Weather Service said.SDG&E warned customers to prepare for the red flag warning, adding that it has alerted about 50,483 customers that they could be without power starting Monday night and lasting until Wednesday, depending on the severity of winds."Our crews remain on high alert and stand prepared to respond as needed to the next round of Santa Ana winds expected to impact our region. With our customers just now recovering from disruptive Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) due to the last Red Flag Warning, we hope Mother Nature will be kind to our region in the coming days and weather conditions improve," the company said.SDG&E customers in several areas of the county already endured outages last week after the first round of high winds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Power has been restored throughout San Diego County following outages amid high winds and dry conditions. Earlier this week, SDG&E said forecasted conditions that may affect power lines prompted them to consider pulling the plug on customers over public safety.Santa Ana winds swirled across the county Wednesday, with the height of the event possibly coming on Halloween, as winds turn offshore Tuesday night through Thursday, matching — if not eclipsing — wind speeds compared to last week's Santa Ana event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Purple tier restrictions enacted so close to the holidays hit San Diegans hard.We're in month eight of the pandemic and cases of anxiety and depression are sky high.Licensed Psychologist Dr. Michelle Carcel explained what is causing these strong emotions, "the longevity of it, the continuous stress that we have to endure, the change of our lifestyles."The CDC reports during late June of 2020, 40% of U.S. adults reported struggling with mental health or substance use.Dr. Carcel said it's important to step back and realize what and how you're thinking. "A lot of times we just believe our thoughts, we just believe what we're thinking and that can be very dangerous right now. We need to question what we're thinking, step back and go, 'gosh! Is this really fair to myself?' And use curiosity and compassion."Some have canceled holiday plans with family, due to the rise in coronavirus cases. Others feel guilt and fear of spreading the virus."When we feel guilt, guilt is a transition emotion, it can really help us identify something that we need to learn from or change from or grow from," Dr. Carcel said. "Using that as a stepping stool, a tool, 'Am I feeling guilty because I can't spend time with my family?' If that is the case, 'Why am I doing it?' Most likely you are doing it because you are protecting your loved ones and you care about your loved ones. That is a wonderful and noble thing. Put yourself in a very good position with that thought."Dr. Carcel said a new study shows those who adapted their routine to fit the pandemic are thriving. One adaptation is instead of attending a spin class, going bicycle riding outdoors with a socially distanced group.Others are visiting with friends outside at a distance instead of indoors."This isn't what we actually want our lives to look like, however we do see an end in sight," Dr. Carcel said alluding to vaccine trials that are showing promising results.Dr. Carcel said the better we adapt to the way things are currently, the easier it will be to snap back to our old norms when restrictions are lifted. 2101
