LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - One of the witnesses to Sunday's fatal drive-by shooting in La Jolla happened to be a trauma expert."I did see people at that point running all over the place," neighbor Michelle Carcel said. Steps from the crime scene, Carcel recounted what she saw hours prior. One woman was killed, and three men were shot on a sleepy street in La Jolla. San Diego Police said all victims were outside a house party on Draper Avenue when the shooting happened. RELATED: 1 dead in shooting at party in La Jolla"By 9 o'clock everything is shut down, so when we hear kids having a party and stuff, we often say it is a very nice thing. It is a quiet calm thing. So to have this occur is completely out of the ordinary," Carcel said. The scene was so foreign to neighbors in this area but all too familiar for Carcel. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Carcel often deals with and speaks about gun violence and trauma. "I've talked about Parkland shooting. I've talked about the Orlando shooting. And to have it happen here, to have it happen here so close to home, is still so jarring and so rattling and really brings the message that it can happen anywhere," Dr. Carcel said. Carcel now wears both the witness hat and the clinical psychologist hat. She is giving advice to everyone involved. "This is going to have acute side effects," Dr. Carcel said. "You're going to have post-traumatic stress that could occur within a period of time. Just monitoring and making sure that they are getting the counseling and support that they need."She hopes for the end of senseless shootings, even if it means she may be out of a job. "Our children are dying," Dr. Carcel said. "Innocent people are dying, I don't know what the solution is, but I hope we come together as a community to figure it out."Dr. Carcel said she will conduct a trauma healing circle for her neighbors at a later time. 1900

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A developer in La Mesa says multi-generational homes could be the key to helping solve San Diego's housing crisis.The Phair Company has plans to build 30 such homes on a 10-acre patch of land near Eastridge Drive. The development is called "La Mesa Summit Estates."The homes will feature an extra master-suite, with a bathroom, kitchenette and separate entry. Families with aging parents or adult children who live at home can use that suite to give them independence, while still keeping the family together."We heard from the community that they wanted to have this," says Austin Dias, one of the partners in the company.The Phair Company did four community meetings to help plan the development. The idea for multi-generational homes came from people who attended. They also heard that people wanted one-story homes to avoid going up and down stairs.After the meetings, the company changed their plans, downsizing the community from 39 to 30 homes and adjusting the floor plans. Now, the development will have 22 single story homes, and eight two-story homes. They range from 2,300 to 3,000 square feet."I love it," says Dr. Karen Childress-Evans, who lives across the street from the land. "It's very conscientious to how society is growing right now. Kids are moving back home, we're taking care of our parents. This is a safe alternative to sending them off someplace else."The company also thinks the cost savings will help in today's housing market."This is just part of what needs to happen in San Diego," says Dias. "It just makes sense to keep families together. "The company has an interest list of around 80 potential buyers. They expect it to grow as word gets out about the project.Dias told 10News he's heard of other companies doing a few multi-generational houses in larger developments, but this is the only one he knows of where every home is built with the extra suite.The project still needs approval from the La Mesa Planning Commission, and then the City Council. Dias says he's hopeful that will happen this summer, so they can break ground and start construction in the fall. He's hopeful that the homes will be ready by this time next year. (KGTV) - A local company wants to fill the gap of high unemployment among the blind and visually-impaired.While the majority are college-educated, 70 percent are unemployed. San Diego-based company Aira hopes to reverse the trend. The assistive technology service is announcing a new initiative to provide free service through the Aira?Employment Program.Aira uses smart glasses equipped with a camera that streams live video to a remote, human agent. Using the video stream, GPS, and web data, agents offer live, on-demand assistance to people who are blind or visually impaired.Now job-seekers will be able to take advantage of the service for free as they look for employment. Agents will help navigate employment sites, fill out applications, build resumes, and travel to and from meetings with prospective employers. "Besides ignorance of not knowing what a blind person is capable of doing, the accommodation aspect is the other fear and Aira can help bridge a lot of that," said Juan Hernandez, an Aira Software Engineer who is totally blind. With help from the community and national partners, Aira has an ambitious goal of lowering the unemployment number from 70 percent to under 7 percent.By removing barriers, Aira hopes companies will see an opportunity, blind and visually-impaired workers ready to put their vast skills and talents to work.  1436

Nearly two weeks later, Wynn is now suing the dancer's lawyer, Lisa Bloom, for defamation.According to Bloom, Wynn would often visit rehearsals for "Showstoppers," where he would instruct the female dancers to "strip down to bras and panties, put on heels, and apply extra makeup so as to be sexually appealing."But Wynn denies ever asking the performers to strip down. The lawsuit against Bloom states that Wynn was "almost always accompanied by either his wife and/or other individuals."
