SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego announced Wednesday they've selected a developer for a new pod hotel concept near San Diego Bay.STAY OPEN was chosen to develop and operate the new low-cost, pod-style hotel concept that would be located on Pacific Highway between the Port's administration building and Palm Street.The concept envisions 33 rooms with eight to 12 pods per room. Each pod would include a single-occupancy bed, storage locker, power supply, ventilation control, privacy screen, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms would share one bathroom with shower facilities. And space on the hotel's rooftop would be reserved for a restaurant, bar, and outdoor seating open to the public.An exact price for an overnight stay in a pod was not released, but STAY OPEN partner JUCY Snooze offers the pod rentals in New Zealand starting at about per night.The goal behind to concept is to offer an inexpensive for travelers, similar to a hostel. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Symphony has overcome the last major obstacle to a permanent home along San Diego's waterfront.The Port of San Diego's Board of Commissioners has granted a 15-year lease for the Symphony's Bayside Performance Park project. The project will see the construction of a seashell-shaped concert venue at Embarcadero Marina Park South, as well as various improvements to the surrounding park.The lease also includes four options allowing the Symphony to extend their lease up to 50 years.The San Diego Symphony will invest a minimum of million toward those improvements, including 66 new restrooms, expansion of the current promenade, and improvements to the park's existing basketball courts and exercise equipment.RELATED: Margaritaville Island Resort coming to San Diego“We’re confident concert-goers will love the improved access and state-of-the art stage and sound system, and bayfront visitors will love the new and improved park,” said Board Chairman Garry Bonelli.The Symphony could begin construction of the venue as soon as September. Since 2004, the Symphony has had to assemble and disassemble its temporary venue for its Bayside Summer Nights concert series.
