LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities believe rising rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed during a Los Angeles home-invasion robbery in February after his social media posts led five suspects to the house he was renting. Police arrested the suspects Thursday morning in Los Angeles. Pop Smoke's legal name is Bashar Barakah Jackson. Police had initially discounted a robbery theory in the days after the 20-year-old New York rapper's death Feb. 19 at a home in the Hollywood Hills. Now, authorities say the group likely went to the home because they knew Pop Smoke was there from the social media posts. 604

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California panel has recommended parole for Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten, who has spent nearly five decades in prison. The recommendation was made Thursday, although Gov. Gavin Newsom could decide to deny it. Newsom blocked her release once previously, saying she is still a threat at age 70. Newsom's predecessor, Jerry Brown, blocked Van Houten's parole recommendation twice. Brown has said in the past that she has not taken full responsibility for her actions and remains dangerous.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. The amended rule was designed to further protect horses without compromising the safety of horses and riders, although as written it is not being widely embraced by some riders.
