LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — Video showed a female duo running from an East County home carrying items, as a helpless homeowner who watched it all unfold on his doorbell camera.At 6 p.m. Thursday, a woman is seen walking up to the front door and appears to be looking for something. Eventually, she wanders to the back of the home, and that's when a loud sound is heard. That sound is believed to the sound of a screen being torn off and a back window being forced open. Don says watching on a Ring camera app was the homeowner, his father, who was out of town with his mother in Missouri. His dad then triggered the alarm and watched as the woman holding several items got into a car in the driveway. Moments later, another woman carrying a box stuffed with items jumped into the same car."I think he started to panic. He's not there and somebody's in the house," said Don.The homeowner is heard asking through speaker "Who are you? Who are you?" before the women drive off."They called me in a panic. They didn't have number for local sheriff," said Don. He called 9-1-1 and deputies arrived minutes later. But the women were long gone. According to the video, they weren't in the home long."In a seven-minute time frame, they went through literally every drawer in the house," said Don.Stolen from the home: A coin collection and dozens of pieces of jewelry belonging to his father and mother. KIDS IN QUARANTINE"2020 was rough for everybody," said Las Vegas mom Danielle Willard.She and her husband Benjamin have been fortunate enough to keep their jobs, but their family is still feeling the effects of the pandemic. Their kids are currently quarantined after being exposed to COVID-19, and the family knows they're not alone."Thousands of families go through this in Clark County every day," said Danielle.BIGGER THAN ALL OF USThen there are millions of others around the world. Something their whole family is well aware of thanks to the internet and social media."The kids are now realizing this is global. It's huge. It's bigger than all of us," said Benjamin.MONEY WAS FLYINGSo the Willards are doing things a little different this Christmas."Looking back at everything we bought for the kids in previous years, it was almost like money was flying and they didn't understand the value behind it and where it came from," said Danielle.STOP & THINKSo mom and dad came up with a reasonable budget and gave the kids very specific categories for Christmas gifts: things you need, things you want, books and clothes."We had to help them through the choice. What do you do most with your time? What are your hobbies?" said Benjamin."It makes them stop and think, what's really important to them," said Danielle.HELPING OTHERSThey also added a spot for giving something to someone less fortunate."They were extremely excited to be able to help, especially when we explained not everybody's in the position we are," said Danielle.The Willards say this year's wish list is saving them a lot of money while helping them to reflect on what's important and counting their blessings.NOT BUYING AS MANY GIFTS"There are families that won't have a Christmas at all," said Danielle.Some people may feel an extra emotional burden from not being able to buy as many gifts for loved ones this year, but Psychotherapist Caitlin Carmody says there are other options."There are so many different ways we can show people love and affection. LA MESA (KGTV) - San Diego County Sheriff's officials are working to find out who shot a 21-year-old man in the neck and how he ended up in a Lemon Grove park.Staff at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa reported that the victim was dropped off around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. LINDA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A body was discovered in Tecolote Canyon Saturday evening, according to the San Diego Police Department.Police said a transient alerted them to the body in an area off High Knoll road, east of the Tecolote Canyon Golf Course and west of Genesee Ave around 5:45 p.m. A team from the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office worked to extract the body, carrying it about 150 feet up the side of the steep canyon.Police estimate the body had been there for several days and had started decomposing. They believe it is a white man but have not determined an age.At this time the cause of death has not been determined, however investigators do not suspect foul play. 719
