The church's leaders invited Muslims to join them so both faiths could learn about each other and the way that they worship. The night started with a moment of silence, then dinner followed by prayer and a question and answer session. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Two families are devastated after their pets go missing. After days of searching, they find out their dogs were adopted from local shelters.“I would give anything to have him back,” says Valeria Mega?a. The Spring Valley family’s poodle mix, named Cookie, has been missing since Halloween. “Its been really hard. Life is not the same without him.”After searching day and night, the family got word cookie was placed at the El Cajon Animal Shelter. When Mega?a checked, she was told Cookie had already been adopted.A similar situation happened to a family in City Heights. Nora Avila says she was out of town when her dog Mocha, who was staying with a neighbor, got out. By the time she made it to the San Diego Humane Society, he had already been adopted.“We pleaded with them to let the family know… that we loved him. He was never abandoned,” says Avila.The El Cajon Animal Shelter and the San Diego Humane Society have holding periods four days for animals with no identification.Cookie and Mocha were not microchipped. “One in three pets in their lifetime is missing at some point, that’s why for us again, it is so important that people microchip their pets,” says Jennifer Brehler, with the San Diego Humane Society.Both shelters tell 10News they have notified the adopters but they have decided to not return the animals.The families are hoping they will have a change of heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV): The San Diego Zoo got quite a surprise this week when one of its Siamang Apes gave birth.It was a surprise because zoo officials had no idea the mother, Eloise, was pregnant.The zoo confirmed the birth to 10News, saying Eloise had been on birth control.The baby was born Monday morning.SDSU student Francelia Amaya was there shortly after the birth. She has been observing the Siamang apes for the past few months as part of a project for her Anthropology class.Amaya says Eloise had been acting oddly that morning."She was really uncomfortable," says Amaya. "She was trying to find the right position. There were a lot of odd behaviors."Amaya got a few pictures and cell phone video of Eloise holding the new baby and swinging around the ape enclosure with the newborn in her arms.Eloise and the baby were taken out of the exhibit shortly after the birth, as was the father. All three are in observation right now.According to the zoo's website, Eloise is "is the best mom a young siamang could hope to have. She's had lots of practice, having given birth to seven youngsters over the years."The zoo says Siamangs are one of a few primate species that form permanent pairs. Eloise and the father, Unkie, have been together since 1987.There's no word from the zoo about how long they'll be kept out of the public eye. 1353

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and local military members are working to put smiles on the faces of kids this holiday season. The 2019 Toys for Tots drive started Sunday. The fire department is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. They have been collecting toys for more than 15 years. Through December 16, all San Diego Fire facilities will be collecting toys and books. The items must be new and unwrapped. Toys for Tots is in its 71st year. U.S. Marines distribute the donated items to the children each year. Since 1947, more than 244 million children have benefited from the toy drive. Local Marines are asking for volunteers to help distribute the items, Monday through Friday, from 9a to 3 pm. The distribution site is at 9955 Pomerado Road. 790

SAN DIEGO COUNTY (KGTV)— Many residents in San Diego County woke up to a big mess after yesterday’s storms brought in the steady rain. Many people witnessed an early morning recovery mission in San Diego Bay Sunday. A 30-foot boat was found partially underwater at La Playa Cove near Shelter Island. San Diego Harbor Police believed no one was inside. But, a friend of the boat owner thought last night’s weather and rough waters might be the reasons it sank.“They may have come in last night during the storm and coming in, the boat sank on them,” friend of the boat owner, Jeff Gough said. Meanwhile, in North County, a large pine tree toppled down onto Eldorado Drive in Escondido.“There was room for like one car width for people to go around it,” homeowner Richard Bensinger said. Bensinger remembered when he planted what was a tiny Christmas tree in his front lawn 15 years ago. It has since grown to be more than 30 feet tall. Bensinger was shocked it came down this morning. He knows now, not to underestimate the power of mother nature.“It was angled a bit, but the roots were spread all over the place. So I'm surprised it actually fell over, but it’s just been so wet and muddy out there, and as you can see, all that mud pulled the whole thing over,” Bensinger said. He now has to live with a pile of pine chunks on his front lawn until county crews come to pick them up. Still, he is relieved no one was hurt.“I’m glad it didn’t fall onto somebody as they were falling down the street,” Bensinger said. The next storm is headed to San Diego County on Wednesday.
