SAN DIEO (KGTV) - Parole agents checked on child sex offenders Thursday night to ensure they were in compliance, as part of the 26th Annual Operation Boo.10News rode along with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Agents who went knocking on 7 doors Halloween night."The gates were closed, the lights were turned off, they kind of know what is expected of them," Parole Agent Matthew Holmes said.Some of the stops took us to National City, City Heights, even a marina where a house boat was docked."Most of the time they're compliant, occasionally somebody has to go back to jail, but we just try to hold them accountable for their conditions," Holmes said.That means no alcohol, drugs, weapons, or pornography.Thursday night everyone checked out.One parolee told 10News he's excited to take the next step after his release, "I feel fantastic, the program is great, State Parole is great. It's definitely worth it. I think all this tax payers expense, they're getting their money's worth, I'll tell you that."Operation Boo is just a small part of agents' role of checking in on parolees. Wednesday five parolees were arrested for being out of compliance. 1181

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The San Diego Police Department's Eastern Division opened up their “Trunk or Treat Haunted Station” to more than 500 kids the Skyline neighborhood. Officers and community members helped to transform the station, and students from Morse High School played monsters in the haunted house. The tradition began four years ago, with the goal of connecting the community with law enforcement.  “It’s so safe. It’s so fun. The kids are having a blast,” one woman said, as her cousin played with the police equipment on display.Outside the station, sponsors gave out candy and snow cones. Officers allowed Trick-Or-Treaters to tour the inside of a SWAT vehicle and ride a police motorcycle. “When I was a child, we didn’t have a place like this to come to,” one woman said, as her grandchildren played inside the SWAT vehicle. “As I was growing up, they would say 'Don’t eat the candy. Things are unsafe.' But we’re so glad to be here because we know our kids are safe here.”Residents said this was exactly what the community needed-- An experience that not only keeps the streets safe, but builds good relationships between residents and law enforcement. “A lot of the kids said, 'I want to be a police officer when I grow up.' And that’s what we want. We want kids from this neighborhood to get interested in becoming a police officer,” Lt. Ernesto Servin of SDPD said.  1414

San Diego (KGTV)- Thousands of students around the world walked out of their classrooms this morning and are taking a stand to help end climate change. Its a part of the “Youth Strike 4 Climate.” Hundreds of students from High Tech High School joined the international fight. Teens say they want a healthy environment for years to come. “This is everyone’s fight, everyone as a community. It's so important that we do something now,” says student Hailey Baiz. The teems say the movement is to let government leaders know that something needs to be done to curb global warming and cut gas emissions. Students at High Tech High say they’ve already reduced their carbon footprint and they want adults to follow their lead. “It is affecting all of us, and I feel that if we go to city hall, we’ll make our voices be heard,” says Frida Sanchez. As part of the international protest, teens are hoping to grab the attention of leaders at their local city halls. 962

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Members of San Diego's Islamic community stood up Thursday in support of three women who were attacked in Little Italy.The women were wearing hijabs and walking down Columbia Street near Beech Sunday afternoon when a man approached from the other direction. Witnesses told 10News 50-year-old Kyle Allen lunged his shoulder into one of them.Allen was later arrested on suspicion of battery, making criminal threats, and weapon charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV/CNS) - Opening statements were delivered Thursday in the civil trial between NFL quarterback Drew Brees and a La Jolla jeweler who allegedly sold the football pro and his wife diamonds far above their actual value.Brees took the stand to describe the close relationship he says he had with the store owner. "He always talked about it as being an investment," said Brees. "Something that you could see appreciate in value."The lawsuit, filed in San Diego Superior Court last year, accuses Vahid Moradi and his company, CJ Charles Jewelers, of selling Brees and his wife Brittany million worth of diamonds between 2012 to 2016. 653
