BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday released details of its green-car subsidy program designed to boost the nation's auto industry and cut vehicle emissions.Through the program, subsidies of up to 60,000 yuan (8,784 U.S. dollars) will be given to buyers of pure electric vehicles in the five cities chosen for the pilot program, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on its website.Buyers of plug-in hybrid cars will receive up to 50,000 yuan in subsidies.The cities chosen for the pilot program are Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei.China is the world's largest auto market.

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged reconstruction authorities to protect the fragile ecosystem and improve living conditions during their work in the quake-hit Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.Hui was speaking at a meeting held by the State Council on Friday in Beijing to evaluate a report on the reconstruction's impact on resources and the environment.A 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Yushu in the Himalayan northwest Qinghai Province on April 14, leaving at least 2,200 deaths.The State Council, or Cabinet, approved the report at the meeting and Hui said reconstruction planners should consider the impact of their projects on the ecosystem.The epicenter of the devastating quake was at the headwaters of three major rivers -- the Yangtze, the Yellow and the Lancang rivers -- that run through China and neighboring countries.The clearing of debris, selection of sites for new towns and development of other industries in the quake area should all prioritize environmental protection, and natural forests as well as vegetative cover should be protected and restored, Hui said.The government has pledged to finish reconstruction work within three years.

SIRTE, Libya, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China expects that the Arab summit in Libya can coordinate the inter-Arab relations and make achievements in the Palestinian cause, a senior Chinese diplomat said here on Saturday."We hope the Arab countries could coordinate internal relations and achieve positive results in reconciliation among Palestinian factions as well as the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli talks at the summit," said China's Special Envoy to Middle East Wu Sike in an interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the 22nd Arab Summit in the Libyan city of Sirte.As a special representative of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Wu attended the opening ceremony of the summit at the invitation of the Arab League Secretariat. He transmitted a letter of Chinese President Hu Jintao to the Arab leaders."I will convey a strong message of China that we attach great importance to relations with the Arab world, and wish to promote further developments of such relations in the future," Wu said.Wu said China and the Arab world have a long history of friendly relationship. DONGXIANG, Jiangxi, May 23 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed in east China's Jiangxi Province when a passenger train derailed after being hit by landslides at Sunday dawn, railway authorities said.The train, bound for the tourist city of Guilin in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from Shanghai, derailed at around 2:10 a.m. in Dongxiang county, Fuzhou city in Jiangxi, the Ministry of Railways said in a press release. At least ten passengers were injured.Xinhua reporters who rushed to the scene saw the locomotive, plus eight of the 17 carriages of the train -- coded K859 -- derailed and some even overturned in the mountainous area of Jiangxi.
