Hackers who infiltrated the Twitter accounts of several high-profile politicians and industry titans over the summer posed as members of the Twitter IT department in order to steal the credentials of employees with high-security clearance, New York's Department of Financial Services says.On July 15, dozens of high-profile Twitter accounts — including those belonging to Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Jeff Bezos — were hacked and posted messages directing followers to give away bitcoin in a targeted scam. Seizing on that vulnerability, the hackers told the employees they needed to check on the VPN and directed employees to a phishing website that looked "identical" to Twitter's IT page.When the employees with advanced access entered their username and password, that information was immediately sent to the hackers.The next day, the hackers carried out their high-profile bitcoin scheme, which alerted Twitter to the hack and caused disruptions on the site for several hours. However, before carrying out the bitcoin scheme, the hackers also took control of so-called "OG" Twitter accounts — valuable account names designated by a single word, letter or number. If login credentials of those accounts are stolen, such they can be sold for thousands of dollars.In all, DFS says 130 Twitter accounts were hacked, and the suspects sent tweets from 45 of those accounts.The DFS said the hacking represented severe flaws in Twitter's security systems, which could have dire consequences."In the hands of a dangerous adversary, the same access obtained by the Hackers–the ability to take control of any Twitter users’ account–could cause even greater harm," the agency said. 2351

HOOD RIVER, Ore. -- A teenager who started the massive Eagle Creek Fire in Oregon has been ordered to pay more than in restitution, according to KOMO.The judge made the decision Monday. The teen’s attorney argued that the massive restitution would violate Oregon and U.S. constitutions because it would inflict “cruel and unusual punishment.”The Eagle Creek Fire started in September of 2017 and destroyed more than 48,000 acres of forest land in the Columbia River Gorge.The teen was 15 at the time of the fire. According to authorities, the teen was tossing fireworks into brush while hiking on the Eagle Creek Trail. One of the fireworks ignited the fire. 670

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Crews battling the sprawling Pine Gulch Fire were presented with another problem overnight Tuesday — a flurry of lightning, and not solely from a rain-producing thunderstorm.Instead, it was the fire itself — now an estimated 125,000 acres after growing 37,000 acres overnight — that produced cloud-to-ground lightning for several hours early Wednesday.The phenomenon was a product of pyrocumulus clouds, which can form when moisture or atmospheric instability moves over an intense heat source, according to the National Weather Service.In the case of the Pine Gulch Fire on Tuesday night, an outflow boundary had produced showers near the Wyoming border, north of the fire area. When that moisture moved south, the fire responded with a rapid output of heat, leading to the pyrocumulus, according to the NWS forecast discussion Wednesday morning.Radar showed consistent lightning strikes for several hours, and NWS employees could see the lightning from their office in Grand Junction.The extreme nature of the Pine Gulch Fire produced a couple more byproducts, noticeable in Grand Junction overnight. When the smoke plume from the fire rebuilt, the temperature in Grand Junction rose from 78 to 90 degrees, according to the NWS forecast discussion. The plume was also dispersing ash, which was falling in Grand Junction.Lightning has been a steady concern for crews battling the fires. While some thunderstorms were in the forecast this week, they were likely to be dry, with not much rainfall and more lightning, increasing the fire risk.The Pine Gulch Fire is one of four major fires currently burning in Colorado that have already scorched more than 175,000 acres of land. She uses 'walk' a lot, 'ball', 'tug', and 'hippo' are really popular. 'Love you, mom,' are really popular," Devine said. Now, with over 40 buttons, Bunny is starting to form sentences."One of her longest sentences to date was, 'Home. Concerned. Soon poop, yes,' which felt very much like a toddler," Devine explained. "Like, 'I have to poop right now. We're in the house. I don't want to be.'"
