Border Patrol says 35-year-old Michael Domenech approached the checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, in a car at about 2 a.m. Saturday.When agents approached the driver, he drove away from the checkpoint. Authorities say agents used a tire deflation device to deflate one of the car's tires.The pursuit continued for 20 minutes until Domenech was taken into custody.Domenech is wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Cory Vargas in Providence on Sept. 24. 640

(KGTV) - A Ramona couple walking their yellow Labrador puppy say they were attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday night, suffering serious injuries.Michael Dougherty was walking with his wife, Dee, in the Kmart parking lot in the 1800 block of Main Street training their puppy, Rueger. Dougherty said it's easier in the parking lot, as there is more light, compared to their rural neighborhood.As they walked toward the Taco Shop, around 7:15 p.m., Dougherty said from the corner of his eye, he saw two pit bulls charging.RELATED: Dog and owner mauled by pit bull during walk in OceansideThey attacked Rueger and his wife, who went down trying to rescue the dog. Dougherty is recovering from a back injury and walks with a cane. He used it as a weapon."I just started beating the dog, beating the dog, until it [the cane] snapped. This fell down alongside the dog and my wife and she grabbed this and was jamming it into the dog's mouth. When this broke I started punching the dog in the head."Eventually they were able to separate all three dogs. No one escaped uninjured. President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age.  A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. Kanye West, Kid Rock and John Rich are among artists expected to attend Thursday's ceremony at the White House.   965
