TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Tuesday both China and Japan should take the road of peaceful development.The peoples of the two countries should promote mutual understanding, trust and cooperation between them, Wen said in an interview with the Japanese public broadcaster NHK."Japan's pacifist constitution adopted after World War II stipulates that Japan should follow the road of peaceful development, which has brought tangible benefits to Japan in terms of rapid economic growth and greatly improved standards of living for the Japanese people," Wen said.Speaking of China's tremendous social and economic progress since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy more than 30 year ago, he said China will stick to the path of peaceful and harmonious development."Both China and Japan should take the road of peaceful development. Therefore, both the Chinese and Japanese peoples should understand and trust each other and cooperate with each other," he said.The reason why China attaches so much importance to taking history as a mirror and looking into the future is by no means intended to perpetuate hatred, but to promote the feelings and friendship between the two peoples and to prevent a repeat of the past tragedy, Wen said.He called on the leaders, news media and the academic circles of both countries to play their part in facilitating the exchange of thoughts and the friendship between the two peoples and promote their mutual understanding.
GUANGZHOU, May 16 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for more efforts in improving the country's innovation capabilities to accelerate the transformation of economic growth pattern.Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while making an inpsection tour to south China's Guangdong Province from Thursday to Sunday."Indigenous innovation is the way out for an expedited transformation of the economic growth pattern," said Li, who told the local government officials to persist in the transformation of the economic growth pattern as a key element and strategic step in implementing the scientific outlook on development.Li called on the local authorities to make great efforts in expanding the culture sector and get inspriration from doing so to keep improving quality and efficiency of economic development, trying hard to find new ways for China's sound and fast development of economy and society in the post-crisis era after the global financial downturn.Li hoped Guangdong to pay equal emphasis on construction of iconic cultural projects and on building of cultural life at grassroots level. ULAN BATOR, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj vowed to boost bilateral ties and cooperation during a meeting here Wednesday.Wen said China and Mongolia share a long borderline, which has become a bond of common interests and friendly cooperation."A good bilateral relationship not only serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also can contribute to peace, stability and common development in the region," he said.The Chinese premier said China takes a strategic and long-term perspective when developing relations with Mongolia, adding Mongolia is a priority in diplomacy toward its neighbors."I have reached many important agreements with (Mongolian) Prime Minister Sukhbaataryn Batbold on keeping exchanges of top-level visits, expanding cooperation in areas such as natural resources, energy, infrastructure and agriculture, and promoting cultural exchanges," Wen said.He pledged China is willing to work with Mongolia to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields and to bring the two peoples, especially the youths, closer to each other to ensure the steady development of the two countries' good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust in the long run.Elbegdorj said Mongolia and China are good neighbors and Mongolia is committed to strengthening the friendly relations of cooperation with China.The economies of Mongolia and China, with different advantages, are highly complementary, he said, adding he hopes the two sides can expand pragmatic cooperation for mutual benefits.Premier Wen also delivered a speech on Wednesday at the opening of the Sino-Mongolian Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.In his speech, Wen made four proposals on further boosting bilateral economic and trade cooperation.First, to boost investment in mineral resources development and infrastructure construction. GUANGZHOU, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Communist Party chief of south China's Guangdong Province Wang Yang on Saturday called for companies to improve management and care more for their employees after 13 workers of Shenzhen-based Foxconn attempted suicides this year, which resulted in 10 deaths.Wang Yang, secretary of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China, told a conference in Shenzhen that the Party, government organizations and Foxconn must "work together and take effective measures to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.""Labor unions in private firms should be improved to facilitate better working conditions and more harmonious relations between workers and employers," Wang said.He also called on young employees to cherish their precious lives, as the suicidal employees were mostly born in the 1980s or 1990s, who had weak self-adjustment capability under emotional, living, or working pressures.More recreational and sports activities should be held among workers to enhance communications and more efforts should be made to help them ease work pressure, Wang said."Economic development should be people-oriented," he said.Foxconn is part of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. and makes computers, game consoles and mobile phones for companies including Hewlett-Packard Co., Sony Corp. Nokia Corp, and Apple Inc.Of Foxconn's 800,000 employees in China's mainland, 430,000 are based in Shenzhen. They work shifts and live inside the massive factory complex.
