SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sixteen Marines were arrested Thursday morning for their alleged involvement in various illegal activities ranging from human smuggling to drug-related offenses, according to U.S. Marine Corps officials.The unidentified Marines did not serve in support of the Southwest Border Support mission, USMC officials said."Information gained from a previous human smuggling investigation precipitated the arrests," said Maj. Border Patrol agents arrested Lance Cpls. Byron Darnell Law II and David Javier Salazar-Quintero on July 3 near the Tecate Port of Entry, according to a federal complaint.Both men are charged with smuggling “for the purpose of commercial advantage or private financial gain,” the complaint said.In the complaint, agents reported seeing three undocumented immigrants getting into the pair’s vehicle on Interstate 8 on the morning of July 3. The vehicle was pulled over a short time later and all five occupants were arrested.The immigrants, according to the complaint, told agents that they paid ,000 to have Law and Salazar-Quintero take them north. 1789

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several San Diego families got their loved ones home in time for the holidays.The Crew of the Future USS Tulsa arrived in San Diego Wednesday.  The ship is a brand new littoral combat ship that completed its maiden voyage from the Austal Shipyard in Mobile Alabama.The crew, from San Diego, had been gone for eight months. Before arriving in San Diego, the ship made several port calls and completed a successful transit through the Panama Canal.The ship’s commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2019, in San Francisco.  That is when the vessel will officially join the fleet. 628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University has suspended over a dozen fraternities after a student who attended a reported fraternity event was hospitalized this week with unknown injuries.SDSU President Adela de la Torre suspended Interfraternity Council (IFC) activities citing the "severity of the incident" following the alleged fraternity event Wednesday night, a statement from the school read."Given the severity of this incident, and as the safety and wellbeing of students is a primary concern of the university, SDSU President Adela de la Torre has suspended the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and all chapter organizations under the council," an SDSU media relations officer said Friday.SDSU clarified Saturday that a campus fraternity is "alleged to have been involved in possible misconduct" in the Wednesday event.Prior to Wednesday, the school says six IFC organizations were under suspension and four were under investigation, leading to de la Torre's decision. The suspension affects all 14 IFC fraternities with more than 1,400 members. A close friend says that Hernandez fell off his bed Wednesday night and hit his head, suffering a head injury. His roommate contacted her after the fall, and she came over to help put him back into his bed. She didn't know anything was wrong until the next morning, when she checked on Hernandez. She said his mouth was foaming, his lips were purple and his skin was yellowing. She performed CPR on him until emergency crews arrived.According to university police, officers were called to a residence hall in the 6100 block of Montezuma Road Thursday morning in response to a student needing medical attention. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, police said."University Police officers quickly arrived to the location of the incident and provided appropriate aid. The student was then transported to a San Diego area hospital," San Diego State University Police Department said.According to university officials, they believe the student had attended a fraternity event the night he fell off his bed.The school did not comment on the student's condition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is warning students that they will need to be re-vaccinated against meningitis after Walgreens gave out shots at non-optimal temperature.According to The Daily Aztec, Walgreens recently discovered that the meningococcus B vaccines, given to 350 students on October 5 and 8, weren’t given at the right temperature.The company says its reaching out to students who received them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several US Navy Sailors put on their uniforms on their days off to help deliver meals to San Diego-area military veterans. Meals on Wheels President Debbie Case said they deliver 500,000 meals every year and about 42 percent of those meals go to veterans.“To see the active duty and the respect that they have for these veterans is incredible,” said Case.Meals on Wheels makes 1,400 deliveries every day. That means more than 500 are for veterans.Case added they also started delivering to disabled veterans no matter how old they are or when they ended their service. 610
