SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family’s trip to the pumpkin patch goes sour when thieves went picking through their car while they were picking out their pumpkins.Fay Feltman, her daughter, her granddaughter and great grandson went to the pumpkin patch located off Mission Gorge in Grantville.Because of how busy the lot was, they struggled to find an open space. She tells 10 News her daughter ran to the car to find the window smashed and the purse stolen right from the trunk of the car.Feltman says her and her family were only in the patch for about 30 minutes. In that amount of time the thieves broke in, stole the purse and made it to Walmart off Murphy Canyon Road to make the purchase.Before heading into the pumpkin patch, Feltman says they took an extra step to put their purses in the trunk, making sure to not leave them in the back seat and visible.RELATED: Family alerted to burglars roaming tented condoUnfortunately the thieves still smashed the driver’s window to access the trunk latch but only grabbed her daughter’s purse and leaving Feltman’s.Feltman’s daughter has spent the past few days on the phone with the bank trying to cancel cards and reorder new ones.She also was at the DMV all day Monday and purchasing a new phone Tuesday. “Who would dream of people who are so evil and so cruel and so black hearted to do something like this I’m just in shock”.Now, the family left dealing with a complete invasion of privacy and sense of security, ”It’s like you’re violated even though they didn’t take any thing of mine personally they were in my car, reaching into my car just that alone makes you feel dirty, its just an icky feeling” Feltman tells us. 1937

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A former Yuma Police officer charged with raping a woman in San Diego is coming face to face with his accuser’s mother. Jared Elkins didn’t flinch in court Tuesday as his wife’s cousin accused him of raping her over and over in her Kensington home. The woman says she didn’t yell because the former officer threatened to kill her. After the rape, the victim said in court that she ran into her mother’s room and escaped out a window. Her mother’s 911 call played in court Tuesday. Elkins’ wife was asleep across the hall. Police body cam footage showed the accuser hysterical in the back of the police car. The woman can be heard telling the officer how afraid she was. Elkins argued that the sex was consensual and the rape charges were made out of guilt. Elkins pleaded not guilty. His attorney said he used bad judgement but the sex was consensual and the two were drinking.He’s facing nine felony counts including forcible rape and could serve 14 years in prison if convicted. Elkins resigned from the Yuma Police Department in 2017. 1066

He also teaches stress relief and nutrition. When you meet him it becomes immediately clear why he's effective. He exudes energy and a half. He says his inspiration comes from his childhood in St. Louis. What his family lacked in means, they made up for in love. So with his fitness background, he wanted to give back to those who also lack the means.He says, "That's the core value of myself and my team, we love you up."Mike was traveling across San Diego county helping 20 different school district groups when the pandemic hit. So, in his can-do fashion, he took his classes virtual. Forty live virtual classes a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. He asks those who can to pay so he can continue to give to others who can't. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - UC San Diego Health and UCSD School of Medicine Friday announced that the university's Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine is significantly ramping up testing for COVID-19, projecting a capacity to complete 1,000 to 1,500 tests per day within two to three weeks.The interdisciplinary team of scientists and physicians from the school and hospital partnered with five in vitro diagnostics manufacturers in the effort -- Thermo Fisher Scientific, Roche Diagnostics, GenMark Diagnostics, Luminex Corporation and Abbott Diagnostics."UC San Diego has always been a recognized national leader in developing industry partnerships for the greater good," UCSD Chancellor Pradeep Khosla said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Del Cerro woman had a rare - and timely - encounter outside a Halloween display on her morning walk Tuesday. Liz Harley and her friend Terry Finstad spotted an owl in the middle of the street, transfixed by a light show of bats on the side of a home. “It was just so cool,” Harley told 10News. Harley and Finstad have been walking together for 25 years, since their children were small. Now they’re both grandmothers and keep their tradition alive. During their walks, the two have seen all kinds of wildlife: coyotes, rabbits, skunks, raccoons. At first, Harley thought the owl was a cat, but then she noticed its head spinning. “We just watched it,” she said. “We wondered, what is it doing?” The owl spent several minutes absorbed by the flying bats, oblivious to Harley’s golden retriever. Harley and Finstad walked on, and when they passed through the area again, the owl was gone, leaving only feathers behind. “Kind of reminded me of Harry Potter,” Harley said. Harley, who usually goes to the gym on Tuesdays, is glad she chose to stay close to home. “I was rewarded for walking this morning.” 1130
