BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Africa celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing Monday, outlining future efforts for greater development of the new type of strategic partnership.Addressing a reception marking the anniversary, Jia Qinglin, top Chinese political advisor, thanked all those who have contributed to the development of FOCAC, a platform for dialogue and pragmatic cooperation between China and Africa launched in October 2000.Hailing the establishment of the forum as a strategic decision by Chinese and African leaders, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the mechanism of the forum has gradually improved and borne growing significance over the last decade.China and Africa have enjoyed increasingly frequent high-level exchanges, mutual political trust and trade relations. ATHENS, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Greece issued a joint statement on Saturday, pledging to enhance their cooperation in various fields in an effort to deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.In a joint statement issued during the visit by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, the two countries expressed willingness to maintain frequent visits by leaders from both sides and enhance mutual political trust."The Greek government respects China's territorial integrity, reaffirms its adherence to the one China policy and supports the development of cross-Strait relations and China's reunification," the statement said.Both sides also agreed to promote the development of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.Greece will continue to play a positive role in discussions within the EU over the recognition of China's full market economy status, which Athens believes is of great political significance, as China has made substantial progress on the issue within the framework of the World Trade Organization, said the statement.Hoping for a just, lasting and feasible solution to the Cyprus issue based on relevant UN resolutions, the two countries support the mediation efforts by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.Greece is willing to cooperate with China in their joint fight against pirates and safeguard the international shipping, according to the statement. XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade surplus was approximately 84 billion U.S. dollars from Jan. to July, down 20 percent year on year, and the year 2010 is expected to see a small trade surplus, said Commerce Minister Chen Deming on Tuesday.Chen made the projection at the ongoing World Investment Forum that runs from Sept. 7 to 9 in southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen.China has seen a trade surplus in recent years, but with a decreasing margin, and the trade surplus takes up a very small proportion of the GDP, noted Chen."China's foreign trade policy aims to stabilize exports and increase imports, which can boost China's economy and also bring positive impacts to neighboring countries," said Chen.Customs statistics show that China's import and export value in the first seven months reached 1,617 billion U.S. dollars, with exports worth 850.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.6 percent, and imports at 766.6 billion U.S. dollars, up by 47.2 percent.China's trade surplus in 2009 was more than 190 billion U.S. dollars, down 34.4 percent from the 290 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.The World Investment Forum is the global meeting on investment and development issues organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. GUANGZHOU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man convicted of murdering 11 people including three police officers over five years were executed Tuesday in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, a local court said.Listed as one of the top wanted suspects, Cheng Ruilong, 37, was arrested in 2005 and was sentenced to death for murder, robbery and rape by Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court in February 2010. He was found to have murdered 11 people in a string of violence between May 1996 and January 2005.Cheng, a Guangdong native, was originally convicted of murdering 13 but the court dropped the number of victims in July's hearing of Cheng's appeal as bodies of a woman and her daughter allegedly killed by Cheng were never found.He lost the appeal. His execution had been approved by the Supreme People's Court, officials with Foshan intermediate court said.

XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the "SinoSat-6" satellite for radio and television live broadcast at 12:14 a.m.Sunday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.The satellite was carried on the Long March 3B rocket which took the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after the launch.In the following days, Xi'an Satellite Control Center and Yuanwang tracking ship will manipulate the satellite's position and transfer it to enter the geostationary orbit.SinoSat-6 has a designed lifespan of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4 degrees east about 35,700 kilometers above the equator, said the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the satellite's researcher and producer.It will mainly serve for relaying TV and radio live broadcast signals and will greatly improve cultural life for people living in remote and mountainous regions, according to China Satellite Communications Corporation which will operate the satellite.China has launched the first SinoSat series satellite, SinoSat-1, in 1998. The SinoSat-2 was launched in 2006 but malfuctioned for it failed to deploy its solar panels and communication antennae.SinoSat-6 will serve as a substitute for SinoSat-3 which was launched on June 1, 2007, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
