after the Trump administration imposed tariffs on Chinese goods. For Mark Ulness and his family from Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, it's the one time of year their hard work in the barn gets recognized by the masses. Some dairy farmers said being at the Wisconsin State Fair is a getaway from the everyday issues their industry is facing."We make sure (the cows are) fed before we eat a lot of times," Ulness said.As a fifth-generation dairy farmer, Ulness has seen the ups and downs of the industry, but nothing quite like the challenges of the last five years."As a family farmer, it's tough to see friends and neighbors go out, but we understand the struggles that they're going through," he said.Ulness said those struggles started when dairy prices plummeted in 2014 due to a milk surplus. Tariff implications over the last few years have only made the industry's outlook grimmer.According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Wisconsin lost 700 dairy farmers last year. It is the topic at the center of many political debates."Some of the farmers are really doing well," President Donald Trump told a crowd in Milwaukee a few weeks ago. "We're over the hump, we're doing really well, and in the meantime our government has billions of dollars pouring in and that money is paid for by China.""The farm foreclosure capital of the United States is, unfortunately, America's dairyland, Wisconsin," said Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez.Heather Larson of Darlington, Wisconsin knows of fellow dairy farmers dealing with more than money issues."He had two friends already this year commit suicide because of dairy farming," Larson said.Ulness is thankful his farm is still afloat, but it's come with sacrifices."My wife has a job off the farm, and a lot of times she'd prefer just to be at the farm working," he said. This story was originally published by Ben Jordan on 1883

according to the Hamilton County prosecutor.Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced the indictment for Rev. Geoffrey D. Drew during a Monday afternoon press conference. The incidents occurred between 1988 and 1991 when Drew was employed as a music minister at St. Jude School in Green Township, Deters said. He was not a priest at the time; he was ordained in 2004.A Hamilton County Grand Jury handed down the indictment Monday. If convicted, Drew faces life in prison, Deters said.</div>A 41-year-old man testified before a grand jury last week after the meetings at St. Ignatius of Loyola were publicized, Deters said. The man said he was 10 and 11 years old and was an altar boy when the incidents occurred, Deters said."It was very emotional," Deters said. "It was emotional for him. It was emotional for the grand jury. It was a very emotional piece of testimony. And he deserves a lot of credit for coming forward, as difficult as it is. He could've just said, 'I'm moving on with my life,' but he wanted to stop this behavior. And he's going to." 1068

because the lettuce might be contaminated with E. coli.According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the products were from October 14 through October 16 and sold in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin. The products have the establishment number "EST. 18502B" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Specific product information can be found on this spreadsheet.FSIS lists this recall as a high health risk, meaning "there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences," according to the recall. The recall comes after the Maryland Department of Health collected an unopened package of the product, and the lettuce tested positive for E. coli. All products from the same lot of lettuce are included in the recall.FSIS is concerned that some product may be in distribution centers, restaurants, or institutional refrigerators or freezers.Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact Mary Toscano, Consumer Affairs Manager for Bonduelle at 1-800-800-7822.To read the full recall 1298

into a wetland in northwestern North Dakota, according to the state's Department of Environmental Quality. The spill was reported Tuesday, shortly after it occurred, and is estimated to be 1,500 feet long and 15 feet wide in Walsh County, state officials said in a Wednesday news release. The pipeline's owner, TC Energy, is working to determine the cause of volume of the release. North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality personnel are at the site and monitoring the investigation and remediation. The pipeline is part of TC Energy's Keystone system that moves oil south from a terminal in Alberta, Canada. The line travels through North and South Dakota before connecting with another line in Nebraska.TC Energy has proposed a separate pipeline through eastern Montana, known as the Keystone XL. At a public meeting in Billings this week, environmental groups and Montana tribal officials highlighted the possibility of oil spills fouling waterways as reasons to oppose that pipeline. The Sierra Club released a statement in response to the spill:"We don't yet know the extent of the damage from this latest tar sands spill, but what we do know is that this is not the first time this pipeline has spilled toxic tar sands, and it won't be the last. We've always said it's not a question of whether a pipeline will spill, but when, and once again TC Energy has made our case for us," said Catherine Collentine, Sierra Club Beyond Dirty Fuels associate director.TC Energy officials said they shut down the pipeline soon after they noticed a drop in pressure from the pipeline, according to the Grand Forks Herald. This story was originally published by 1658
