COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fourteen people were injured and at least two animals were killed at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo when a hailstorm tore through the Colorado Springs area Monday afternoon.Five zoo patrons injured in the storm were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to the Colorado Spring Fire Department. Nine people were treated at the scene. CORTEZ HILL (KGTV) - A woman's body was found in the courtyard of an apartment building in Cortez Hill, near Little Italy.Police were called around 3:30 p.m. to the Atmosphere apartment complex on 1453 Fourth Avenue.San Diego Police and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived a few minutes later. The 42-year-old woman had traumatic injuries to her body, and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.Police say the woman may have jumped from the 8th floor, but the homicide unit was called to the scene out of caution.Neighbors say they've seen police at the complex often, "most people say that this is just domestic violence dispute or something like that I’ve never actually seen anybody arrested, I have seen an ambulance here and people hauled away in the ambulance," neighbor Tom Hochrein said.He's lived in San Diego for 19 years and just moved to this neighborhood last year, "this area seems a little shaky here."Neighbors were concerned this time something severe happened, "someone must’ve said something about homicide or somebody you know jumped out the window or was pushed out I don’t know," Hochrein said.A woman who lives in the building said she feared for the safety of her family, especially her 18 month old son. She said the police knocked on her door and questioned her and her husband about whether they heard anything an hour prior.When she went downstairs, she found police tape across an elevator and parts of the floor where police were still investigating, "I'm scared, I have a family. I feel okay that the police are here but I really hope they find the suspect soon," she said.The sidewalk was closed for about 3 hours, while the investigation took place. CINCINNATI, Ohio — A settlement has been reached after a police officer used a Taser on an 11-year-old girl while working an off-duty detail at a Kroger in Southwest Ohio.The City of Cincinnati and Kroger have agreed to pay the family of Donesha Gowdy 0,000 to settle the claim of excessive force, according to a news release from family attorney Al Gerhardstein.Donesha had been shoplifting from the Kroger on Aug. 6 when Officer Kevin Brown, who was on security duty, ordered her to stop. She didn't. The officer fired his Taser as she walked away. One probe struck her at the base of her spine; the other hit between her shoulder blades.The incident prompted an apology from Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and a promise from Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman to review Cincinnati Police Department’s protocol on Tasers.Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot K. Isaac promised “a very thorough review” of Brown's actions, as well as the department’s use-of-force policies as they pertain to juvenile suspects. He said he's "extremely concerned when force is used by one of our officers on a child of this age."Smitherman, along with the girl's mother, also say the policy needs to change. The settlement did not include plans to change police department policy, and it must be approved by probate court.Donesha wrote this apology to Kroger: “I Donesha Gowdy is writing this letter to apologize to the Kroger company … to say I’m sorry for stealing from the store in will not do it again.”WCPO television station in Cincinnati has reached out to the City of Cincinnati and Kroger for comment. 1629

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A local Tuskegee Airman who served in World War II was honored and celebrated in a special way on Thursday.Asa Newman who was part of the Tuskegee Airmen— the first African American unit to fly combat airplanes in World War II—recently turned 102 years old.To celebrate this American hero, community members lined the street as law enforcement honked their horns and a crowd waved across the street to Newman.The Aurora Post of the American Legion was there to honor Newman who was surrounded by family and friends.Newman grew up in Cleveland and attended East Cleveland High School. After World War II, he moved to Chicago and attended college at Roosevelt University. He was one of seven children, with three brothers and three sisters.
