SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County public health officials are urging locals who attended indoor services and events at a Kearny Mesa church to quarantine for two weeks after a COVID-19 outbreak linked to the location.The county says anyone who attended Awaken Church at 7620 Balboa Avenue between Nov. 15 and 22 should quarantine for 14 days after their last date of visiting the church and watch for coronavirus symptoms.Officials added that anyone who was at the church within that time frame should get tested for the virus.Generally, the county does not reveal the locations of community outbreaks and has long advocated against the practice. In this instance, public health officials say it's necessary to, "prevent the spread and occurrence of additional cases," and that, "in this case, public health has been unable to identify and notify all of those exposed."In a letter to the church, the county said while the community outbreak linked to the church doesn't mean that anyone contracted COVID-19 at the location, everyone who has attended events at the location should quarantine for 14 days.A community outbreak is three or more COVID-19 cases from different households within two weeks at one location."You should review your current plans to prevent COVID-19 at your location and determine if there are actions that you can take to reduce the likelihood that your staff, customers, or visitors could contract this infection," the letter said.The county added that anyone who has attended the church, as well as the public in general, should continue to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and avoid large gatherings.With the exception of two days, San Diego County has seen new COVID-19 cases spike to more than 1,000 cases a day over the last week. In a message titled “COVID-19 Update,” state officials say immunization requirements “remain in place for now. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials seized more than 10 tons of marijuana hidden behind a cargo shipment at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry this week.At about 9 a.m. Monday, an agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection was inspecting a truck with a manifested shipment of "plastic garment hangers." The vehicle was referred to a secondary inspection where an x-ray machines would continue the inspection.During the secondary inspection, officers detected an anomaly which prompted another examination this time with a canine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Cat Kom spent Tuesday morning leading Studio Sweat’s spin and sculpt fusion class, a half-hour of spin, and a half-hour of strength.“It is hard but it feels so good,” Kom said after the session.The other thing adding to her jubilance: the fact that she could finally open her boutique gym's new location in Rancho Bernardo.She said it seems like a long time coming.Kom’s outlook was a lot different when she first spoke to 10News in April in the midst of the coronavirus shut down.She couldn't open her new gym, was still paying rent for the old 4S Ranch location, and, like many small business owners, was shut out from a federal stimulus Paycheck Protection Program loan.“We didn't lay a single person off,” she said at the time. “That was our plan and that's what we hoped to do. Now we're kind of going, oh my gosh I might have to lay people off.”Fast forward to Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Construction has started on Mission Valley's first public elementary school.The new preschool through 5th-grade campus at the corner of Via Alta and Civita Boulevard will serve residents living in the Civita residential development. Families living in the Mission Valley and Fashion Valley neighborhoods will also make use of the new school.The campus will feature classrooms with roll-up doors that open to the outside for 1st- through 5th-grade students; dedicated play areas for preschool, kindergarten, and 1st- through 5th-grade students; "makerspaces" for students; and an indoor-outdoor multipurpose facility.San Deigo Unified School District provided a virtual walkthrough of the campus here."With more significant growth planned in the area, we must prepare for the influx of new families and students," said Dr. John Lee Evans, Board of Education President. "This community deserves a quality neighborhood school."The campus will enroll up to 500 students and construction is expected to finish in spring 2022.The new school is funded through 2012's voter-approved Proposition Z bond measure, state schools facilities funding, and developer fees, according to San Diego Unified School District. 1231
