SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - "81 percent of people get a mild form of this disease; I'm one of them," says Dr. Eileen Natuzzi. But as of this week, she's back on her feet and recovering. When she's healthy enough, she'll answer Governor Newsom's call for retired health care workers to return to the job in the fight against coronavirus. For now, she's helping some friends in Hollywood with their cause. "So, please, please, please, donate as much or as little as you can. Everything helps," says actress Alicia Silverstone on her Instagram video.Dr. Natuzzi's and Silverstone have been trying to drum up support for donations to a GoFundMe page created by fellow actor Edward Norton. It's already raised close to 5-million dollars to get critical supplies to medical professionals. Dr. Natuzzi has a family member who works in one of those New York hospitals where mask supplies are so short; they use the same one all day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A female sea lion Monday wandered onto the streets of Point Loma, prompting spectators to gather and springing a rescue team into action.According to a passerby, the sea lion was spotted in the middle of Garrison Street around 4 p.m.According to crews, the sea lion would’ve had to cross Rosecrans Street to get to Garrison. Rescuers from SeaWorld responded to the scene, adding that the sea lion appears health and at a normal body weight, but they’ll need to further examine her to learn more.SeaWorld also said it’s unusual for a sea lion to wander that far away from the bay, but the animals have been found on porches, inside hotels and on driveways. 683

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A choir group from Carlsbad High School got the chance of a lifetime Tuesday night when they took the stage with a legendary rock band.Students from the choir gave themselves an opportunity to perform with award-winning band Foreigner by entering a contest from local radio station KGB-FM in May.“We just sent in a video to KGB, and they gave us a call and said, ‘Hey, you guys won,’” said Carlsbad High choir director Jessie Bullock.“Our teacher told us one day in class and we were like, ‘Oh my gosh. There’s no way! That’s amazing!’” said student Garret Avilez.To the members of Foreigner, public school music education is important.Bassist Jeff Pilson said with tight budgets, public music programs are often the first to get cut. Those programs personally inspired his career.“I started playing the cello when I was in 5th grade and happened to end up with an amazing music teacher,” said Pilson.None of the students were born until decades after Foreigner made a name for itself worldwide. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three newly activated teams of chaplains certified as handlers of specially trained service dogs will offer added emotional support services to the employees of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the agency announced Tuesday."We are excited to introduce our three canines," San Diego Fire Chief Colin Stowell said. "They are highly trained and available to our employees for emotional support in dealing with traumatic or emotionally challenging incidents. ... Using canines has proven successful in so many other areas, and we know these dogs will fit right in with our fire family."The SDFRD Crisis Response Canine program will be administered by chaplains Debi Arnold, Dan Guarrero and Betsy Salzman, making use of the skills of their dogs, Ty, Bodie and Genoa.Ty is a 6-year-old mini goldendoodle owned, trained and handled by Arnold, who bought him when he was 12 weeks old. They have two years' experience with a local trauma intervention program.Bodie, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, was trained and placed by Next Step Service Dogs, which prepares canines for active-duty military personnel, veterans and first responders who have post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.The total cost for Bodie and his training was about ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Descanso woman whose power was cut during last week's Red Flag warning was surprised to receive a utility estimate showing an increase in power use.Cheryl Erpelding's power was taken away for parts of both Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, when SDG&E was trying to prevent a wildfire from igniting and spreading. Still, she got an estimate from SDG&E showing that she used the most power during the parts of those two days when the power was on. "If you're going to email me how much I'm using, why don't you email me a better guess," Erpelding said. RELATED: Homeowners with solar heated about SDG&E proposal to raise minimum billErpelding's weekly estimate showed she used 31 kilowatt hours on Oct. 31, and 26 kilowatt hours on Oct. 30. On other days of the week, her usage ranged from 16 to 24 kilowatt hours.SDG&E says the reason for this is Erpelding is a solar customer. The estimate she received reflects her net usage, which usually reflects credit for her putting power back into the grid. That reduces her net usage significantly.
