He was 27.Presley's representative Roger Widynowski said in a statement Sunday to The Associated Press that she was "heartbroken" after learning about the death of her son Benjamin Keough. TMZ reports that Keough died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday in Calabasas, California.He is the grandson of the late Elvis Presley. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Major League Baseball lashed out Wednesday at Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner, who was pulled from the team's championship- clinching World Series game due to a positive COVID-19 test, but left isolation to celebrate with the team, sometimes without a mask on.According to a statement issued by the league, Turner was placed into isolation during Tuesday night's game in Texas "for the safety of those around him.""However, following the Dodgers' victory, it is clear that Turner chose to disregard the agreed-upon joint protocols and the instructions he was given regarding the safety and protection of others," according to MLB. "While a desire to celebrate is understandable, Turner's decision to leave isolation and enter the field was wrong and put everyone he came in contact with at risk. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - TV actress Lori Loughlin will serve her prison sentence at the federal correctional institution in Victorville for her role in the college admissions scandal, according to court papers obtained Thursday.A judge signed off on the actress' request to serve her time at the medium-security federal prison camp, according to a Sept. 9 order filed in Boston federal court.Loughlin's husband, clothing designer Mossimo Giannulli, will serve his sentence at the low-security federal prison for men at Lompoc in Santa Barbara County.Loughlin was sentenced on Aug. 21 to two months behind bars -- hours after her husband was handed a five-month term -- for paying 0,000 in bribes to get their daughters admitted to USC as crew team recruits, even though neither girl played the sport.U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton ordered the "Full House" star and her husband to self-surrender at their respective prisons on Nov. 19 to begin serving their time.Loughlin was also ordered to pay a 0,000 fine and serve two years of supervised release with 100 hours of community service.Along with his prison term, Giannulli was ordered to pay a 0,000 fine and serve two years of supervised release with 250 hours of community service.Victorville prison camp inmates are housed in "open bay" dormitories, two and four-person cubicles, and four-person rooms. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California dam could fail during an extreme storm and send water flooding into Mojave Desert communities that are home to about 300,000 people, authorities said Friday.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it has changed its risk characterization of the Mojave River Dam from low to high urgency of action. The Corps says it estimates that only 16,000 people in those communities would be affected by flooding.The earthen dam was built in the 1970s near the San Bernardino Mountains northeast of Los Angeles. It was designed for flood control and is usually dry.The 200-foot-high (61-meter-high) dam has never breached but an assessment last year found that during an extreme storm, water could flow over the top and erode the dam.That could threaten Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville, Barstow and even the tiny town of Baker, more than 140 miles (225.3 kilometers) downstream.The chances of such a storm are only about 1-in-10,000, said Luciano Vera, spokesman for the Los Angeles district of the Army Corps of Engineers.However, "all it takes is one event ... one Katrina, one Hurricane Harvey," Vera said. "These storms are happening more and more, so this is our way of looking toward the future."The corps has been working with local communities on emergency preparation plans and will also begin a study on upgrading and strengthening the dam, Vera said.Since 2005's devastating Katrina, the corps has been looking at all of its 700 dams nationwide.In May, the corps upgraded the risk characterization of Prado Dam to high urgency. That dam is located on the Santa Ana River in the Los Angeles suburb of Corona. Dozens of Southern California cities with about 1.4 million people live downstream.Work to improve the dam has been under way since 2002 to increase the amount of floodwaters and sediment it can store.In 2017, some 200,000 people in three Sierra Nevada counties were forced to evacuate after spillways at the Oroville Dam crumbled and fell away during heavy rains.Flooding didn't happen, however, and the dam has since been repaired. 2092
