WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration says it will not work with an international cooperative effort to develop and distribute a COVID-19 vaccine because it does not want to be constrained by multilateral groups like the World Health Organization. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon is banning displays of the Confederate flag on military installations, using a carefully worded policy that doesn’t mention the word ban or that specific flag. The policy is laid out in a memo signed by Defense Secretary Mark Esper obtained by The Associated Press. It was described by officials as a creative way to bar the flag’s display without openly contradicting or angering President Donald Trump, who has defended people’s rights to display it. "The flags we fly must accord with the military imperatives of good order and discipline, treating all our people with dignity and respect, and rejecting divisive symbols," the memo reads. The memo lists the types of flags that may be displayed at military installations, such as the U.S. and state banners and the POW/MIA flag. The Confederate flag is not on the list.The change applies to all "public displays or depictions of the flag by Service members and civillian employees in all Department of Defense work places, common access areas, and public areas." WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department says Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has come into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 and is quarantining. The department said Wednesday that Pompeo had tested negative for the virus but was being monitored by medical professionals. The department said it would not identify the infected person with whom Pompeo came into contact for privacy reasons. The announcement comes as Pompeo and the department have been criticized for hosting holiday parties amid the coronavirus pandemic. Pompeo had been expected to attend President Donald Trump’s Cabinet meeting later Wednesday although the appointment was not listed on his public schedule. 704

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — An 8-year-old has gone above and beyond this holiday season.Aiden Foster didn’t give up until a West Palm Beach woman found her cat which ran away weeks ago.The past 10 years Ashley Goldstein and her furry friend, Tobin, have been inseparable. But just days after they settled into a new home, Tobin disappeared.“I was desperate to find him. I put flyers up,”Goldstein said.She searched for several days which then turned into weeks, still no sign of Tobin.“Honestly I thought I was never going to see him again. I kinda gave up,” she said.At that moment, a glimmer of hope.Ashley received a phone call with the news that she’d been desperately waiting for.“It’s this little boy telling me that he thinks he saw my cat,” she explained.It was Foster, the neighborhood pet detective, who promised to help.“I saw him in the backyard he ran over the fence,” Foster said.Aiden kept his word and went above and beyond, using a little creativity in the process.“So I tried to go after him and I just couldn’t so I just put my cat food that was there, I put a trail all the way down there left a whole big pile over there ,” Foster said.60 days after his disappearance, Ashley received her Christmas miracle.
