SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man whose bike was stolen, decided to track the thief himself. But instead of turning him in, he turned the situation into something positive. Rob Greenfield never thought he'd see his bamboo bike again. “I didn’t lock it because I was sitting 20 feet from it and then I heard a noise and I looked back and saw the guy speeding off into the night with it.” When he found the thief, he didn't turn him in. He pulled him in for a hug, forgave him and took his bike back.  “It’s one of a kind bamboo bike but really what makes it special is that I’ve biked across the United States on it doing good deeds," he said. "So I’ve traveled thousands of miles across the country.” The theft made him want to do more good deeds, right here in San Diego. “I decided that rather than turning that into a really negative situation I would turn it into a positive situation," he said. "Knowing the feeling of having a bike stolen I decided I wanted to give bikes to kids who have had their bikes stolen and can’t afford a new one.” Greenfield started a GoFundMe to raise money for bikes. Bikes that he would then donate to the Boys and Girls Club - to kids whose bikes were stolen. He says it's a lesson in kindness that he hopes the thief who took his bike, and the kids who were given bikes, will pass on.“I can crowd out the bad with lots of good. So one bike stolen so I can give away 10 bikes, he said. "In that way it just wipes that bad deed out.”Rob gave away 10 bikes Tuesday and says that there is enough left for him to do it again.  1614

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Marine is setting out to accomplish something few have, climbing the continent's highest peaks and running a marathon on each one.Major Patrick Holcomb is calling it the 7&7 Challenge.“It’s not really official because up until this point only two people have done it," said Holcomb, who's been in the Marine Corps for 18 years.Holcomb will rely on his rigorous training and gear as he completes the mission.He's already run five marathons on five continents and has climbed three peaks.“Every country you go to you get to experience people and culture, there are a lot of differences around the world," said Holcomb. "What’s been shocking for me is realizing, how much at the end of the day, people are all the same."He plans to use his personal mission for good, teaming up with a nonprofit that helps veterans suffering from PTSD or traumatic brain injuries.Holcomb plans to start fundraising during the final leg of the challenge, Mount Everest in 2022.He's currently based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. 1057

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A successful regular season could mean some end-of-the-year award hardware for members of the San Diego Padres.On Monday, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) revealed the finalists for National League Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year.Manny Machado is among the finalists for National League MVP. The Padres’ star third baseman, Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts, and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman are all in the running for the award.Noticeably absent from the finalists list is Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who was considered among the favorites for the MVP award throughout the season.The last Padres player to be named NL MVP was Ken Caminiti in 1996.The NL Rookie of the Year finalists include Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth, Alec Bohm of the Phillies, and Devin Williams of the Brewers.If Cronenworth wins the award, he would be the first Padres ROY winner since catcher Benito Santiago in 1987.The Padres’ first-year manager, Jayce Tingler, was named a finalist for the NL’s Manager of the Year award. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego photographer is searching for a mystery couple seen in a Sunset Cliffs engagement photo.Elmer Rodriguez says he was out for a walk with his kids taking pictures of the sunset in late February. When he looked off to the side, he says he spotted the couple in the distance and decided to capture the special moment. “I decided it’s a good memory and they should have it,” Rodriguez said. But when Rodriguez walked over to meet the couple, he says they vanished. RELATED: Michigan photographer finds mystery engagement couple in viral Yosemite photoRodriguez posted the photo on social media in hopes of finding the couple.“I took this photo a few weeks ago, in #sunsetcliffs I called it, 'love at dusk' if anyone knows them, please let them know,” Rodriguez said in an Instagram post.If he finds the couple, Rodriguez says he wants to give the photos away free of charge. “I’m not trying to get any profit, it’s just something I believe they should have."In late 2018, a separate picture showing a couple getting engaged in Yosemite went viral.The Michigan photographer who took that photo was eventually able to find the couple. 1167
