WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — Searing pain and immediate swelling were the first signs that 6-year-old Kyden Debyah needed immediate medical attention.While playing in his backyard Monday morning, Kyden said he felt what he thought was a bee sting his right foot near his big toe. Then his mom saw a snake coiled up underneath the tire swing Kyden was about to get on.“I heard him scream 'My leg, my leg,'” Amber Debyah said. Debyah called 911 and grabbed a rake to kill the snake. By the time she came back she said she knew it was bad.“His foot was double the size. It was really hot, red,” Debyah said.First responders told her to try and get the snake so they could identify it and figure out what type of antivenin he needed. First responders brought the dead snake to the emergency room and doctors began administering antivenin for a pygmy rattlesnake bite. In all, Kyden got 18 vials before the swelling subsided and his symptoms started to go away.  The entire time Debyah worried if her son would lose his leg or worse.“I really feel he got lucky after reading other people's stories,” Debyah said. “I feel like if it would have bit him fully with both fangs, it would’ve been a lot worse.”Only one fang injected venom into Kyden’s body. “He was in great spirits the whole time. He was laughing and joking I mean other than the pain in his foot he had no symptoms, no fever, no vomiting. Normal Kyden, except for the pain,” Debyah said.  Kyden might have a low-grade fever, sore joints, rashes, but nothing that will cause permanent damage, Debyah said. Each vial of antivenin costs around ,000. The family has insurance but it does not cover snake bites. The insurance company said their contracted cost for the antivenin will be adjusted but could be anywhere from ,000 to ,000.Kyden is still allowed to play in the backyard, with one new rule, he keeps his boots on at all times.“So grateful", Kyle Debyah, Kyden’s dad said. “You want to try and be strong and focused to better assess everything but I was worried.”The family set up a Gofundme if you would like to help them cover the cost of the antivenin. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Milwaukee, Charlotte, Jacksonville: all cities that, at one time or another, prepared to host one of this year’s two major political conventions, along with tens of thousands of people.The coronavirus, though, put all of that on ice.“We were going to show the world all the great things Milwaukee has to offer, so it’s disappointing this had to happen to us this year,” said Wisconsin resident Katie Dahm.Professor Barry Burden heads up the Election Research Center and is a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.“The role of the convention will definitely be different this year,” he said. “Research shows that conventions have had smaller and smaller impacts over the years.”Both the Democratic and Republican conventions are now, for all intents and purposes, virtual. So, what might that look like?“They will be highly-produced, slick productions that have been prepared in advance,” Prof. Burden said. “So, they have removed some of the uncertainties and spontaneity that happens at a convention. That may remove some of the excitement.”George Washington University media and public affairs professor Peter Loge agrees with that – up to a point.“There won't be the spontaneity,” Loge said, but also added, “I think the nets will still have to cover it because it's such a different convention, right? What's actually going to happen? What are we going to do? It's new. WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump and the first lady were greeted with boos Thursday as they visited the Supreme Court to pay their respects to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.As Trump stood next to the justice's casket, a crowd chanted “vote him out” and “honor her wish,” referring to Ginsburg’s request that the next president should fill her open seat.Just days before her death, Ginsburg’s granddaughter, Clara Spera, says the justice dictated this statement to her, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”Ginsburg died last week at the age of 87. She is currently lying in repose at the Supreme Court for a second day.The president will announce his candidate to replace Ginsburg on Saturday. WAYNE COUNTY — Four children were killed when a semi struck a car that was slowing in a construction zone on an Indiana interstate Thursday evening.It happened shortly after 5 p.m. on eastbound I-70 in Wayne County, about 70 miles east of Indianapolis.According to Indiana State Police, troopers arrived to find a Chevrolet car and a semi pulling a box trailer both on fire, just west of a construction zone.State police investigators believe the truck did not slow down when it came upon slowed traffic near the construction zone and slammed into the back of a car, pushing it into another semi.Witnesses told the Wayne County Sheriff's Office that the driver of the semi that struck the car from behind was operating in an "erratic manner" prior to the crash. Investigators say evidence revealed that stopped traffic was not a contributing factor to the crash.Preliminary toxicology reports indicated that the driver had multiple drugs in his system at the time of the crash. He was arrested and lodged into the Wayne County Jail on the following preliminary charges:Four counts of reckless homicideFour counts of operating while intoxicated causing deathOperating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injuryIndiana State Police say a passerby was able to pull the driver of the passenger car out of the vehicle, but none of his passengers.State police say four children inside the vehicle were all pronounced dead at the scene. He escaped his burning truck and was taken to a hospital in Richmond.
