IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) - Medical examiners identified the body found floating off-shore in Imperial Beach as 29-year-old Zabiullah Rahmani.Rahmani leaves behind a wife of nearly ten years and two 7-year-old twin daughters. Ramzia Rahmani tells 10News, "I can say it was horrible and it still is." Less than a week since she lost her husband and the feelings are still raw, "The fire is burning in my chest whenever I see my girls ask about their father. It'ss too hard to face their questions, it's hard to answer their questions about their dad."She tells 10News, her husband left Saturday night to hangout with friends down in Imperial Beach. She says he was planning to be home for midnight but the hours after turned into Monday, "The doorbell rang and I saw there was two police officers and I felt bad. I thought maybe something happened to my husband." Thinking something bad but never imagining it would end up being her worst nightmare, "It's hard for me to believe hes not with me anymore." Thankfully she has support from family members like Zabi's cousin, "I'll try my best to be like a father to Zabi's kids and treat them the same way I treat my kids." Hurricane Michael made landfall as a strong Category 4 storm, bringing 155 mph winds to shore.Due to severe safety concerns, officials in Bay County, Florida, said emergency crews wouldn’t respond to emergency calls placed during the storm. During a press conference Wednesday, officials expressed serious concerns of the amount of people who chose to stay and ride out the storm."I'm worried that large numbers didn't evacuate, because we have very good information that they didn't,” said Chief Mark Bowen with Bay County Emergency Services. “When you look at shelter counts, traffic counts, and the number of people who live in those evacuation zones, it's just math. So, there are people out in this storm. It’s just physics and common sense that there's going to be some situations out there that could be unsurvivable.”Emergency responders got emotional as they spoke of having to hunker down and wait out the worst of the storm before they could respond to those in need. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - What a difference books can make for the learning and growth of a child. 10News Anchor Kimberly Hunt returned to Imperial Beach Charter School, where students can’t get enough of reading. Nine months ago, they were surprised with a donation of 1,800 books, made by 10News employees and the Scripps Howard Foundation. Each child was able to select two books of their own, with the rest going to the library and classrooms. “Last year, I didn't like to read. But this year I love to read," said 7-year-old Diego. His favorite book is "Hoot Hoot".“It's about owls. They're having a little party," he said.Seven-year-old Adriana loves the adventure of a good book. “My favorite thing about reading is you can imagine stuff while you're reading the book," she said. Her favorite book is "My Weird School". Principal Melissa Griffith says the books have made all the difference to students.“The opportunity for them to learn sounds, to learn words, to take adventures within books, there's really nothing like it and it's so beneficial for our students," said Griffith. “Our students enjoy the books greatly. In addition to that, it allows for additional books to be in our library and also in our classrooms. So in the hands of kids is what we want, and we're so appreciative of that." 1320
