PARADISE, Calif. (KGTV) - Dramatic body camera video recorded on the first day of Northern California's Camp Fire shows a Butte County Sheriff's deputy in what he thought would be the final moments of his life. BCSO Deputy Aaron Parmley was driving down Pentz Road in Paradise when his vehicle became disabled due to the firestorm. Parmley got out to run to safety.Fearing that he was about to die, Parmley switched on his body camera to document the situation the morning of Nov. 8.Video shows Parmley walking near a home and down the middle of a road with burning embers surrounding him. Other people, including a nurse and police officer, were walking nearby. Parmley's struggle to breathe in the heavy smoke is apparent. The life-saving moment happened roughly an hour and 14 minutes after Parmley turned on his camera. A bulldozer approached Parmley and the police officer, and both men got inside to be taken to safety. The Camp Fire went on to become the deadliest fire in California history, with 88 fatalities and 196 people missing as of Nov. 29. PASADENA (CNS) The 2021 Rose Bowl game has been relocated from Pasadena to Texas, leaving Southern California without its signature New Year's sporting event for the first time since 1942.Officials announced Saturday that the game -- a College Football Playoff semifinal -- will played at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Jan. 1, 2021.The decision was based on ``the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California along with the inability to host player and coach guests at any game in California,'' according to a statement from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.``We know that the decision was not an easy one to make,'' said David Eads, Tournament of Roses CEO and executive director. ``While we remain confident that a game could have been played at the Rose Bowl Stadium, as evident in the other collegiate and professional games taking place in the region, the projection of COVID-19 cases in the region has continued on an upward trend.''The Tournament of Roses received word late last week that the state of California would not make a special exception for player guests at the game. Since March, all sporting events played in California have been unable to host spectators and participant families. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses made its first appeal for a special exception at the Rose Bowl Game in November and made a second request to the state in December. Both requests were denied.``We are very grateful to Rose Bowl officials and the City of Pasadena. They have worked hard to listen to the concerns of the CFP, the teams that might have played there, and their state and government officials,'' said Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff.Officials have not yet determined if the game in Arlington will be called the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One. The name is co-owned by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the city of Pasadena.Since 2015, the Rose Bowl has been part of the College Football Playoff system, serving as a semifinal game every three years. The Rose Bowl is the oldest of the nation's bowl games. The first game was played in January 1902, and the annual tradition began in 1916. Since 1923 the game has been played at or near the beginning of every year at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, with the exception of 1942, when it was moved to Durham, North Carolina for security reasons during World War II.Meanwhile, USC announced Saturday that it will decline to participate in a bowl game this postseason. The Trojans were defeated, 31-24, Friday night by the Oregon Ducks, leaving their record at 5-1.The decision was made following a recommendation from the USC medical team and discussions with the Trojan football leadership council. The football program has experienced a rise in COVID-19 cases among its players and staff recently, including positive cases this past week. ``I am incredibly inspired by our players and the sacrifices they made these past six months to play the game that they love,'' Trojans coach Clay Helton said. ``They did everything we asked of them to abide by the challenging guidelines they had to follow to stay safe and well, whether it was daily testing or keeping distant from family and friends or training in less-than-ideal ways. It has not been easy ... We all share the desire to stay healthy and be with loved ones during the holidays and I fully support this collective decision.'' 3431

Peas and Carrot will both likely be spared of the fate of becoming a Thanksgiving meal by President Trump — but only one will be named "National Thanksgiving Turkey."On Monday, the two South Dakota-grown turkeys have introduced at the Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.After meeting the President on Tuesday, Peas and Carrot will "retire" to Virginia Tech, where they'll join last year's pardoned turkeys — Drumstick and Wshbone.Last year, the Drumstick beat out Wishbone as the nation's Thanksgiving Turkey, beating out his buddy, Wishbone. President Trump later pardoned both turkeys, which now live in a farm at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.Click here to vote for which turkey you'd like to see be named the "National Thanksgiving Turkey" of the year.    802

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — One year ago, a man opened fire inside an Otay Mesa Church's Chicken. On Friday, families are still grieving and plan to honor the somber milestone. The fast-food restaurant sits on the corner of Del Sol and Picador Boulevards. Witnesses say the man tried to use counterfeit bills to buy food and was refused. He killed Maribel Merino-Iba?ez, 28, and severely injured Mario Rojas, who is a grandfather.Friday, a drawing of Maribel's ghost above wilted flowers showed her loved ones still feel the emptiness.Rojas barely escaped that night and is still going back to the hospital."I still have more surgeries coming in, I think probably next month," Rojas said over the phone. He was shot in the arm and the stomach, which has led to back complications. Last December, when he came home from the hospital, he described how difficult his recovery has been: "He destroyed my life, my dreams everything."Rojas is in a similar state a year later, using a walker to get around and unable to work."My wife has to help me take a shower, and help me with the clothes, to change my clothes and everything," he said sadly. The restaurant paying 20 hours a week of worker's compensation, not nearly enough to pay mounting medical bills and rent."I have a lot of depression right now," Rojas said. His wife launched a GoFundMe page to help them through. Mario's coworkers at his former job are saving money on the side to help with this month's rent. The man suspected of pulling the trigger, Albert Lee Blake, 49, faces a judge for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16. 1582

People are using a chemical used to calibrate machines to get high that is so powerful it's nearly Narcan resistant. Some dealers are passing off this new drug as fentanyl. But the reality is much worse. It's a hazardous chemical mixed with fentanyl called tetrahydrofuran fentanyl."It's got other opioid effects. Some of these things are 100 or 1,000 times more potent than heroin," said Dr. Michael Miller of Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc. The drug is new to Wisconsin, but law enforcement has found it in Florida and Georgia. Last week, a Pennsylvania man, Jeremy Achey, 43, was sentenced to life in prison for supplying tetrahydrofuran fentanyl.According to federal court records, a man overdosed and his fiancee died when they bought it from him over the internet. Prosecutors say the seller told customers, "It is best if you snort it, shoot it, or smoke it."Miller said most addicts do not even know they are taking this synthetic fentanyl."Most people who are exposed to synthetic fentanyls are not using them intentionally. They are not desiring to use them because they understand that the potency is so high it could be lethal," Miller said.Achey is believed to have mailed thousands of packages containing the drug to customers throughout the United States. In order to survive it, Miller warned you would need a large dose of Narcan."It's the fentanyl part that is really fatal because it shuts down your breathing and you die instantly," said Miller. "You use as much opioid reversal agent as you possibly can, you support them, you put them on a ventilator." The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office could not say where the person who died in Milwaukee got the tetrahydrofuran fentanyl. But they warn if one person has it likely others do as well. 1808
