OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 7-year-old was found dead inside an Oceanside home Wednesday morning, leading to the arrest of her father, police say. According to Oceanside Police, the suspect's mother was called to the home on the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive around 11 a.m. to pick up the suspect’s two children. When the woman went inside to pick up the children, she noticed blood on her son, Pedro Araujo, 27, police say. After leaving the home with one of the children, a 6-year-old girl, police say the woman called 911. Police arrived and, after searching through the home, found the body of the 7-year-old girl. Araujo was arrested and taken into custody, police say. "I'm shocked," said neighbor Tina Torres of the crime scene in her neighborhood. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Army veteran sprang into action when he witnessed a man attacking another man at an Oceanside transit station.Oceanside police said the incident happened Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m. on the Amtrak platform at the transit station on 195 S Tremont St.Police said Craig Chaviez allegedly attacked and stabbed a 30-year-old man. When another man -- identified as 40-year-old Andrew Reinicke, tried to intervene, police alleged Chaviez punched him in the ribs and stabbed him in the head area.Reinicke was ready to take a train to culinary school in Pasadena when the incident occurred. The Army veteran told ABC 10News’ Michael Chen that he was dressed in his "chef whites" and reading some notes just before the attack.“A guy rushed up, jumped on top of him and started wailing on him,” Reinicke said of the victim.Reinicke said as the fight escalated, that’s when he decided to get involved.“You see someone who needs defending and you do it. You don’t necessarily choose to do it, you just do it,” said Reinicke.After jumping into the fray and tussling with the attacker, Reinicke said the man pulled out a small knife.“He was punching me in the eye, the ribs, and the face. He comes at me again, throws me to the ground and tries to stab me as often as he can. He ends up getting me right in the head,” Reinicke said.Reinicke told ABC 10News that the knife “did pierce the skull” and he suffered a “little bit of bleeding on the brain.” He said his adrenaline was pumping so he did not feel any pain initially.According to Reinicke, the attacker then accused him and the first victim of robbing him before walking towards buses.Witnesses said Chaviez tried to flee from the scene, but he was arrested a short time later.Oceanside police said the 25-year-old Chaviez, who is from Inglewood, was a fugitive wanted in Los Angeles County over an aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon case. (KGTV) — The Oceanside Unified School District voted Thursday to return students to an all-online learning format to prevent any coronavirus outbreaks, as cases surge throughout the state.Starting Monday, all elementary schools in the district will move to distance learning."With the recent rapid rise of COVID-19 cases, and our commitment to keep staff at home who are feeling sick, we’ve experienced a direct impact on staffing," an email from the district read late Thursday. "As a result of compounding staff shortages, we are unable to provide the amount of substitutes needed to effectively run our schools and classrooms. Additionally, we are not permitted under public health guidance to reopen our secondary campuses while we are in the most restrictive purple tier.The district said in addition to the move for elementary schools, it will delay the secondary return to in-person classes until San Diego County returns to the "red tier" of California's reopening guidelines.Secondary learning centers will continue to support students and the district's elementary enrichment program will serve students pending staffing. The district's free curbside meals program will also still be offered to all district students during virtual learning.The district's winter break will go on as planned from Dec. 21, through Jan. 8, 2021.No changes were announced regarding the scheduled return to in-person class for middle and high school students in January. 1485

Officers in New Jersey broke up a large house party in New Jersey with hundreds of people in attendance, authorities said.Police responded to a residence along Mill Pond Road in Jackson following a report of a suspicious incident around 8:30 p.m., according to Jackson Police Department.Officers arrived and spoke with several neighbors who said a house on the street was rented out to a group that was having a large party, causing a disturbance.Police contacted the homeowner, who said he had rented out the residence on Airbnb.The party expanded to about 700 people in attendance, with over 100 vehicles parked in the area, according to police.Officers began clearing the crowd from the residence and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and authorized charges against the homeowner and party organizer for violating the state’s executive order in reference to the number of attendees allowed at a gathering.Officers from the Freehold Police Department, Howell Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and New Jersey State Police also responded to assist and clear the large crowd from the residence and direct traffic as people left the area, according to authorities.During that time, police also received a call from a resident nearby reporting people who attended the party had broken into their residence and were damaging property.An investigation determined a family member of the caller was at the original party and had invited a large group back to their residence. The group was then dispersed, police said.It took until 1 a.m. for the officers to clear the residences of partygoers and all the vehicles from the neighborhood.The homeowner, later identified as 40-year-old Yaakov Weiss and the party organizers, 23-year-old Patience Guanue and 22-year-old Alicia Hinneh, were issued summonses.Gov.
