Doctors warn that a measles outbreak could occur following the COVID-19 pandemic due to a persistent decline in regular doctor's visits.Doctors at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, have noticed that many families are not bringing children in for regular checkups during the pandemic. While there's a variety of vaccines that children should get, doctors are anxious about the drop in measles vaccinations."If not enough kids get enough of a vaccine, measles being one of those vaccinations, you can lose herd immunity," said Dr. Sara Bode, a pediatrician at Nationwide Children's. "That puts us all at risk of having an outbreak of that illness when we get back together again."According to the World Health Organization, at least 93% of the population needs to get the measles vaccine to reach herd immunity.Researchers have found that vaccine rates have dropped as low as 70% in some places in Ohio, which raises concern for a potential measles outbreak.Typically, kids follow a type of "vaccine schedule" throughout their childhood. But many families have put vaccines for their children off amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Doctors say it's not too late to get those shots."If you're delayed in getting the measles vaccine, that's OK," Bode said. "Still come in and get it because it will protect you from the day you start to get it. So really, the only consequence would be that time that you are unprotected."Anyone who is uncomfortable about stepping into a doctor's office should know that efforts are in place to make it a safe space for everyone. Parents can also seek out pop-up and mobile vaccination clinics as alternative places for children to catch up on vaccines. 1699

During an interview with Stephen Colbert, former President Barack Obama expressed regret about not giving Dolly Parton a President Medal of Freedom. The “Late Show” host asked Obama why Parton doesn’t have a Medal of Freedom during a segment called “Questions we're pretty sure Barack Obama has never been asked before.”“That’s a mistake. I’m shocked,” Obama answered.Colbert jokingly asked if Obama realized that not giving the country icon the medal was the mistake that he made during his eight years in office.“Actually, that was a screwup. I’m surprised,” said the ex-president.Obama said he mistakenly assumed Parton already had one, but said he would reach out to President-elect Joe Biden to make things right.“She deserves one. I’ll call Biden,” said Obama.Along with a successful singing and acting career, Parton founded an reading program for kids called "Imagination Library" and recently, people have applauded the star for donating million for the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.During his time in the nation’s highest office, Obama presented the Medal of Freedom to many people. Some notable recipients include Ellen DeGeneres, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, Diana Ross, James Taylor and Stevie Wonder.Obama was on the CBS talk show to promote his new memoir, “A Promised Land,” in which he details his journey to the White House and what his first term was like. 1404

EL CAJON, CALIF. (KGTV) - A pair of Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from an El Cajon high school are turning heads for their achievements. It has been 19 years since a student from Grossmont High School was appointed to military service academy and the class of 2018 has two who received multiple appointments.John Flaherty and Nicholas Ghosn earned four appointments in total.Flaherty was nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy while Ghosn earned them to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.“I was on top of the world,” said Flaherty describing the moment he got the call he was being appointed, “it was everything I dreamed of since I was four-years-old.”Flaherty is attending West Point and Ghosn will head to Annapolis at the end of their summer.Nicholas Ghosn says it was bittersweet to get the nod from the U.S. Navy.“All I ever wanted was to go to that college and join the ranks of the officer corps in the Navy, but I knew I was going to be away from my family and friends and home,” said Ghosn, “it’s going to be a long time before I get to see them so I was kind of sad because I knew this was it.”The 17-year-olds grew up a mile and a half from each other in Spring Valley and played sports together.“It’s unprecedented,” said Gunnery Master Sgt. Mark Brosnan on the two earning nearly million dollars in scholarship money from the schools.“I’ve never had cadets from public school get two appointments in the same year,” added Brosnan. They are teenagers, but they know they are on the precipice of something great.“They don’t let you into the Naval Academy or West Point if you eat tide pods,” laughed Ghosn, “Thats on the application.”The two head to their respective schools in late June, but plan to see each other at the Army-Navy game in December.  1855

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of El Cajon is days away from unveiling their new million dollar animal shelter to the public and gave 10News a sneak peek on Tuesday. The new shelter is double the size of the current facility, which was built in the 1950's, and features state-of-the-art amenities. The city believes it will dramatically improve the adoption experience for East County residents."With more room comes more ability to provide the standard of care expected for these types of animals," said Dirk Epperson, Director of Public Works for the City of El Cajon. The facility has a medical center and operating room as well as a full-service grooming station. There will also be several 'get to know you rooms' where potential adopters can get one-on-one time with the animals.Epperson says efficiency is a theme in the new facility, making it easier and more environmentally-friendly for shelter employees to do their jobs. The grand opening is Saturday, June 2 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m and adoption fees will be offered for all animals. The shelters will be closed from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1. However, special arrangements can be made for residents needing to drop off stray dogs or claim a pet.   1250

Donald Trump's former physician claimed that his office was raided last year by the President's former bodyguard and a Trump lawyer seeking Trump's medical files, according to a new report from NBC News Tuesday.Dr. Harold Bornstein told NBC News that Keith Schiller, Trump's former longtime personal bodyguard and confidant, Trump Organization Chief Legal Officer Alan Garten and a third "large man" came to collect all the President's medical records."They must have been here for 25 or 30 minutes. It created a lot of chaos," Bornstein told NBC News, adding that the incident left him feeling "raped, frightened and sad."Garten declined to comment to NBC News. Schiller and the White House did not immediately respond to NBC News' request for comment. 761
