The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning against the use of teething necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry used to relieve pain for children. This warning follows reports of a 7-month old child who was taken to the hospital after choking on the beads of a wooden bracelet and reports of an 18-month-old who was strangled to death by a teething necklace.“We know that teething necklaces and jewelry products have become increasingly popular among parents and caregivers who want to provide relief for children’s teething pain and sensory stimulation for children with special needs. We’re concerned about the risks we’ve observed with these products and want parents to be aware that teething jewelry puts children, including those with special needs, at risk of serious injury and death,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said. The FDA provided the following 890

TORONTO, Canada – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) says it won’t send its team to the Tokyo Olympics unless they’re postponed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 Games were set to start on July 24 and run through August 9, but the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 has many calling for them to be rescheduled. That includes the COC, which is asking the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and the World Health Organization to postpone the Games for one year. COC said it would offer its full support in helping navigate all the complexities that rescheduling the Games would bring.“While we recognize the inherent complexities around a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community,” wrote 822

Travel website Kayak will soon allow travelers to filter trips by aircraft model. The company is introducing the feature after a Boeing 737 Max jet flown by Ethiopian Airlines crashed Sunday, killing everyone aboard. It was the second time that type of jet was involved in a fatal crash in less than five months. A Lion Air jet from Indonesia went down shortly after takeoff last October."We've recently received feedback to make Kayak's filters more granular in order to exclude particular aircraft models from search queries," said Giorgos Zacharia, chief technology officer for Kayak. "We are releasing that enhancement this week and are committed to providing our customers with all the information they need to travel with confidence."Aviation authorities in many countries around the world are ordering 737 Max planes not to fly in their airspace. But the US Federal Aviation Administration has said it believes the plane is safe and allows it to continue to fly. American Airlines, Southwest and United still use versions of the 737 Max.Airlines already let passengers know what type of aircraft is intended for any given flight at the time of booking. That's necessary so passengers can select their seats. And Kayak — along with Booking.com and Priceline, which are also owned by Booking Holdings — already allows travelers to sort by plane type, such as a narrow body plane, regional jet, widebody jet or turbo-prop plane. But it hasn't been possible to search and filter by a specific model before now. Among Booking-owned websites, the feature will be limited to Kayak for the time being. For people who are trying to avoid flights on a 737 Max, though, simply booking a trip without one is no guarantee. Sometimes airlines change flight equipment at the last minute. A flight that originally listed an older Boeing 737 on the reservation, for example, could use a 737 Max instead.Passengers are growing concerned about flying on the 737 Max planes in the wake of the crashes. InsureMyTrip, a travel insurance company, said Wednesday it has received a growing number of calls from concerned travelers who don't want to fly on a Boeing 737 Max. Although travel insurance will pay if a flight is delayed, canceled, or grounded due to this problems, in most cases a passenger deciding he or she doesn't want to fly on a certain plane isn't enough to pay a claim. Both the Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air crashes are still under investigation, and there is no evidence that they are linked in causality. But there are similarities, including the model of the plane and the fact that both flights lasted only minutes before they came down. A preliminary investigation shows that pilots in the 2707

There was no question when Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter retired in 2014 that he would be a Hall of Famer. The only question was whether he would be a unanimous selection. On Tuesday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that Jeter and former Rockies and Expos hitter Larry Walker have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jeter was just one vote shy of becoming the first position player to be unanimously elected to the Hall of Fame, and only the second Hall of Famer in history to receive 100% votes. Former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera remains the only player to receive 100% of the vote from baseball writers. Jeter had 396 out of 397 possible votes.Rivera and Yankees won five World Series together with the Yankees. Jeter is No. 6 all-time in hits; No. 11 all-time in runs scored; and a five-time Gold Glove winner.Walker was a five-time All Star and was the 1997 MVP. Walker made it into Hall of Fame after being on the ballot for 10 years. He obtained 76% of the vote, 1% more needed for induction, after garnering 54% of the vote last year.Just missing election was Curt Schilling who failed to reach the 75% threshold for induction for the eighth straight year. He was just shy with 70% of the vote. Also failing to make the ballot was pitcher Roger Clemens and outfielder Barry Bonds. Despite having statistics worthy of Hall induction, both players' careers were marred by allegations that they used performance enhancing drugs. Clemens and Bonds both earned 61% of the vote. 1520
