SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego coffee drinkers plenty to be buzzed about with the local java scene.Recently, Mostra Coffee in Carmel Mountain was named Micro Coffee Roaster of the Year by Roast Magazine. The company, led by Filipino-American friends Jelynn Malone, Beverly Magtanong, Sam Magtanong, and Mike Arquines, has operated in San Diego since 2013 and gained a reputation for their creative drinks."We dreamt up this company and wanted our Filipino culture to be a part of it, but we didn't know anything about coffee or where to begin to source Philippine coffee," said Malone. "Traditional lattes, cappuccinos and a sprinkle of a few manual pour over methods. Maybe even a few shops carried something called 'cold brew' ... if you were lucky of course. The farm, developed by Grammy-winning musician Jason Mraz, grows about 2,800 coffee trees with several other varieties. The farm partnered with Frinj Coffee to offer the beans. Taste makers and brew masters get the craft of what we are doing," Taylor said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting behind closed doors Thursday evening to discuss how to potentially keep businesses open after Gov. Gavin Newsom denied removing San Diego State’s COVID-19 cases from the county’s total case rate.The meeting, though, yielding no new actions by the county.In a statement, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said since the board took no action, "it would be inappropriate to comment on the deliberation.""In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California. We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact," Fletcher said.The county is now at risk of moving back to the most restrictive purple tier if the case rate is higher than 7.0 by next week. She works at the Knotty Barrel on Market Street, relying on tips to help make the rent. “It’s a lot slower than in the summer, when we have baseball games and conventions,” said Devine. She pays 0 to split an apartment in North Park. “I feel like I’m saving all of my money for the first and then all of my money gets swiped for rent." Devine among thousands of San Diegans competing for the region’s low supply of homes.The average rent in the county is now about ,900 a month, according to Marketpointe Realty Advisors. One of the big challenges is that people keep moving to San Diego for jobs, but there aren’t enough homes being built to accommodate them. The state reports that employers have added 26,000 payroll positions in the last year, but developers have only pulled permits for about 11,500 new housing units. “You can’t have population growth and one half of the units that are needed to house these people,” said Borre Winckel, who heads the San Diego County Building Industry Association. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Crime Stoppers released photos of a suspect and offered a reward Thursday for tips about an assault in the Midway area. A man parked his vehicle along the side of the Arby’s at 3777 Midway Drive April 6 about 7 p.m., inadvertently cutting off another driver. The man went inside the restaurant and got into an argument with the driver. During the fight, the driver punched the victim in the head eight times, police said. The victim fell to the ground and the driver stomped on his head with his feet, according to investigators. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for an orbital fracture. The suspect drove away from the area, police said. He is described as white, about 30 years old, with a muscular build. The sides and back of his head are shaved, according to officers.
