President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that New Zealand was experiencing a coronavirus “spike” following a handful of cases being discovered on the island nation after going three months without a reported case.“There were holding up names of countries and now they're saying, 'Whoops,' like even New Zealand, you see what's going on in New Zealand,” Trump said on Tuesday. “’They beat it, they beat it' it was like front page 'they beat it,' because they wanted to show me something. The problem is big surge in New Zealand so you know, it's terrible. We don't want that.”But New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern snapped back at Trump.“I don't think there's any comparison between New Zealand's current cluster and the tens of thousands of cases that are being seen daily in the United States,” Ardern said early Wednesday in New Zealand. “Obviously, every country is experiencing its own fight with COVID-19. It is a tricky virus, but not one where I would compare New Zealand's current status to the United States."According to the New Zealand Ministry of Health, the island nation has recorded 90 coronavirus cases in the last week, generally confirmed to the Auckland region. On Tuesday, New Zealand reported 13 new cases. Meanwhile the US is averaging more than 40,000 cases per day.New Zealand has a much smaller population than the US with 5 million residents. Per 1 million people, New Zealand has 2.5 cases. The US has 121 cases per 1 million residents. After generally lifting most social distancing measures throughout the nation, the country has gone back to a heightened state of alert, especially in the Auckland region, which is at a Level 3 alert. The government has also set the nation’s parliamentary election back four weeks to October 17.Unlike in the US where the date of the election is set by statute, New Zealand’s governor-general sets the date of the election, given it is within a three-year timeframe from the previous election. 1969

President Donald Trump is asking the Supreme Court to put on hold an appeals court ruling that Trump’s accountant must immediately turn over tax records to a New York state prosecutor. The move on Tuesday sets up a decision from the high court that could come before Election Day. The court could allow the immediate enforcement of a subpoena issued by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. or block it temporarily. Even if the court rules against Trump, however, the records would normally not be made public but rather turned over to Vance’s office. This is the second time the records issue has reached the high court.Unlike most presidential candidates, Trump has opted not to release his tax returns to the public. Although details of Trump's taxes have largely been a mystery, a September New York Times report shed some light on Trump's finances. The president reportedly did not pay federal income taxes for 10 out of a period of 15 years. He also reportedly paid 0 in federal taxes in 2016 and 2017, an amount far lower than most would expect for a billionaire real estate mogul. 1105

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — The Christmas season means joy, lights, and of course Santa — just a few of the things you will find at Poway's annual Christmas at the Barn."I've had this store for 13 years," says Countryside Barn Co-owner Liz McNamara. "We've always done Christmas, but Christmas exploded for us about seven years ago."For two weekends in November, customers flock to their pop-up store, Christmas at the Barn. It's a Christmas haven for the holiday shopper."It's really become a big family tradition for our customers. They come with their friends, and we have three generations that shop together. We get customers coming from Palm Springs, Orange County, and from as far away as Las Vegas and Arizona," McNamara said. From Christmas ornaments and trees to gnomes, and holiday signs, it's all about making the home merry and warm during the holidays. "We try and bring those items to you that are unique and different," says McNamara. "Where your house feels like a home you want to be, and where you want to celebrate with your family and friends." Of course, this year will be a bit different as in a COVID-19 version of Christmas. Last weekend the store had a line that went out the door. This weekend, as San Diego has entered the state's purple reopening tier, McNamara does not know what to expect."How many people are going to come? We don't know anything. We are limiting our capacity, we are requiring masks at all times covering the mouth and the nose, and we require the use of hand sanitizer at the door," she said.Christmas is all about family and friends. This year, the pandemic will make it more restrictive — but that may mean starting to spread joy even earlier this year."Over decorate your house, and put your tree up now. Who cares, as long as it brings you joy and happiness. Do it, there are no rules this year. It's all about enjoying the season and making those special moments with the little bit of family you can. Just make it a merry Christmas," said McNamara.Christmas at the Barn runs Nov. 12 - 15, and customers are encouraged to bring canned food, which will be delivered to the Poway Community Food Bank. 2158
