They all lean on the power of inertia to help workers build up bigger nest eggs. It’s a sharp turnaround from earlier years when workers had to take an extra step to join the 401(k) plan and fill out paperwork whenever they wanted their contribution levels to change.“There’s always a way, if you don’t want to do it, where you can unenroll, but these automatic programs have been a game changer,” Taylor said.Consistent contributions — and giving them time to grow — are keys to building bigger portfolios. Among workers who have been in their 401(k) plan for 10 straight years, the average balance rose to a record 8,200, according to Fidelity.Such figures, though, count only people who have a 401(k). Many lower-income workers, particularly at smaller employers, could not save in a 401(k) even if they wanted to because their companies don’t offer access to one. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting early Monday morning at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay.Deputies say just before midnight, two men got into an argument in the parking lot outside the mosque during a Ramadan event attended by several hundred people.At some point during the argument, one of the men fired at the other.An off-duty deputy, who had just finished working security detail at the event, heard the gun shots and rushed to the parking lot.The Sheriff's Office reports the deputy found one man holding a gun and another man who had been shot at least two times. The deputy detained the suspect shooter until additional units arrived on scene.Paramedics rushed the victim to Tampa General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.Authorities say the public is not in danger. They believe the two men knew one other and were both attending prayer services at the mosque.Homicide detectives are interviewing the shooter who is cooperating. They want to determine the nature of the argument and whether the shooting could be classified as self defense.No charges have been filed.The Sheriff's Office says there is no indication the shooting is in any way related to a terror attack and only appears to be a dispute between the two people involved. 1309

The Miami Dolphins waived second-year running back Mark Walton after he was arrested Tuesday morning, with police accusing him of repeatedly punching the mother of his unborn child in the face.An officer responded to a residence in the Miami suburb of Davie around 4:15 a.m. and learned that Walton had been in an argument with a woman, according to a police report.The woman was five weeks pregnant, the report said, and had told Walton on Sunday that the child was his."During the course of the argument, Walton pushed (the woman) against a wall and punched her several times in the face and head. I observed (the woman) to have swelling on her left eye," the responding Davie officer wrote in his report. The victim's name was redacted in the report.Walton is charged with aggravated assault on a pregnant woman, the report says. Walton remained in the Broward County Jail, pending a Wednesday hearing that would determine his bond status.Walton's attorney, Michael Gottlieb, said he spoke with his client Tuesday.
