The parents share the biggest hurdle is his continued care during the Pandemic.In the first three months of his life, Baby Devin has experienced eight surgeries. Spina Bifida is a condition where his spine didn't fully close while in the womb."Devin is at a small percentage where he has Symptomatic Chiari, where it affects his ability to breath and swallow," says dad Jon Hoy.Now at five months, little Devin is home from the hospital with his parents and three brothers, but he requires 24-hour medical care."He has a trache in his throat, and then he has a ventilator that helps him breathe," says Hoy. "The same ventilators that have become so crucial during COVID-19. He has G-tube to help him eat in his stomach."Parents Jon and Erin Hoy say finding in-home care has been tough."These nurses need to be pediatric certified. They need to be trache certified and vent certified," says Mom Erin Hoy. "His level of acuity has just created a big barrier for finding nurses."Due to COVID-19, there is an added level of caution for those who are around Baby Devin. Hoy says during her search for adequate help, she's learned, "there's a significant difference or pay difference between nurses in a hospital or a facility compared to nurses in home."Hoy says they are still in need of nurses to help Devin around the clock, but they are grateful for the ones that have come in so far."There's always light that comes if you just hold on. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When a significant wind gust led to an emergency response at SeaWorld’s Bayside Skyride Monday, San Diego Fire-Rescue technical rescue teams and San Diego Lifeguards were ready. The teams conduct training sessions at least twice a year on the ride, which has gondolas traveling through the air for a view above Mission Bay. Monday night at 7:30 p.m., five gondolas became stuck with 16 people on board, including a toddler. “She was a little cold, because I think she'd been up there for a little bit, so that was my priority,” said firefighter Sean Murphy. The park also stayed in contact with guests through an intercom. Temperatures dipped temperatures dipped into the low 40s as crews launched a precision operation with ropes, harnesses and pulleys. “Our bread and butter is ropes and auto extraction,” said Murphy. Murphy showed 10News what was involved in lowering the 16 gondola passengers down to the ground. “Everyone had a little bit of jitters, but I tried to let everyone know exactly what we were going to do,” Murphy said. The toddler was put in a small harness. Murphy said it helped that the child's dad served time in the military. “He was pretty calm, composed, which was great relief for me, and allowed us to lower those two pretty easily,” said Murphy. It took roughly five hours to rescue everyone. No one was injured.The Bayside Skyride, which first opened in 1967, remained closed Tuesday during an inspection of the ride. 1644

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County residents can now watch for wildfires without ever going outside.  San Diego Gas and Electric introduced “Alert SDG&E Cameras” Tuesday.  The public website allows anyone to watch live video streamed from any of 15 cameras placed on top of the county’s highest peaks.“This is a game changer for San Diego and the communities that we serve,” said SDG&E COO Caroline Winn.“Alert SDG&E Cameras” is a collaboration with UC San Diego and the Seismology Lab at the University of Nevada, Reno.“We’re about getting the information out to those who want it,” said Winn. “It’s important that these are shared assets.”SDG&E meteorologists monitor the cameras, which can spin 360-degrees, zoom in to a fire, and can alert fire officials when there’s smoke. 814

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Whale watchers have been delighting over an invasion of humpback whales off San Diego’s coast.Domenic Biagini is a photographer for San Diego Whale Watch. He says the numbers in recent days have been unprecedented in San Diego “We’ve had a huge influx of humpback whales that have pretty much shown us all of their unique behaviors, lunge feeding, breaching, tail-throwing,” said Biagini. “They’ve given us it all on every trip, they’ve been mixed in with dolphins, it’s been really special out here.”RELATED: Break from town: Where to take a day trip from San DiegoBiagini says the influx is due to massive amounts of bait, including one school of anchovies the size of a football field. “Rarely do we see double-digit whales, some of these days we’ve seen over 20 whales all in one area feeding, and almost always when they’ve been feeding they’ve had thousands of common dolphins around them, sea lions nearing the hundreds.”RELATED: San Diegan's PB phone pic up for Smithsonian photo of the yearBiagini captures it all on his drone and says it’s been some of the most spectacular footage he's gotten in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Volunteers spent Wednesday afternoon putting some TLC into the Balboa Park Carousel.Built over 100 years ago, the carousel has broken down only three times. That's in part due to support from the community and the dedication of Carousel Manager Bill Brown.
