NEW YORK, N.Y. ¨C Rush Limbaugh provided an update on his "roller coaster" battle with lung cancer Monday, saying a recent scan showed ¡°some progression¡± and that it¡¯s ¡°in the wrong direction.¡±The conservative talk radio host has been seeking treatment since he announced in February that he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. In a statement posted on his website, Limbaugh said his scans had previously shown that his treatments had ¡°rendered the cancer dormant,¡± meaning they had stopped the growth of the cancer.¡°It had been reduced, and it had become manageable,¡± he said.Limbaugh said he has stage 4 lung cancer and that his team has adjusted his chemotherapy drugs with hopes of keeping additional progression at bay as long as possible.¡°The idea now is to keep it where it is or maybe have it reduce again. We¡¯ve shown that that is possible. If it happened once, it can happen again,¡± he said. ¡°So that¡¯s the objective of the current treatment plan.¡±Limbaugh did address that his cancer is likely terminal.¡°It¡¯s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I¡¯m under a death sentence are over. Now, we all are, is the point,¡± he said. ¡°We all know that we¡¯re going to die at some point, but when you have a terminal disease diagnosis that has a time frame to it, then that puts a different psychological and even physical awareness to it.¡±The host has not mentioned his cancer battle that much since his diagnosis, saying that he doesn¡¯t want to treat it as ¡°an opportunity to bleed on the audience, to either complain or constantly update.¡± He says that¡¯s because he¡¯s not the only one going through hardships. 1637

NEW YORK (AP) ¡ª In a sign of how the pandemic is remaking Hollywood traditions, AMC Theatres and Universal Studios on Tuesday announced an agreement for a shortened theatrical window, with the studio¡¯s films playing for a minimum of just 17 days in cinemas compared to the typical 90 days.Studios have increasingly sought to shorten that window and deliver new movies more quickly into the home. After 17 days, Universal Pictures and Focus Features will have the option to make their films available across premium video on demand platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime and AMC Theatres On Demand.¡°The theatrical experience continues to be the cornerstone of our business. The partnership we¡¯ve forged with AMC is driven by our collective desire to ensure a thriving future for the film distribution ecosystem and to meet consumer demand with flexibility and optionality,¡± said Donna Langley, Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group in a press release. This deal applies to U.S. theaters, international distribution between the two companies is still being negotiated.AMC and other theater chains have struggled during the pandemic as businesses closed earlier this year and indoor spaces face state-by-state guidance on social distancing and reopening policies.AMC says this multi-year deal with Universal is a commitment and belief that customers will come back.¡°We would note that just as restaurants have thrived even though every home has a kitchen, AMC is highly confident that moviegoers will come to our theatres in huge numbers in a post-pandemic world. As people enjoy getting out of their homes, we believe the mystical escape and magical communal experience offered at our theatres will always be a compelling draw," said AMC CEO Adam Aron in a statement.Universal said they are working with AMC and other distribution partners on restarting theatrical releases, including upcoming installments of Fast & Furious, Jurassic World, Despicable Me, and others.Tuesday's agreement repairs a rift between AMC and Universal brought on by the on-demand release of ¡°Trolls World Tour¡± in April. The new deal covers Universal films in the U.S. over the next three years. 2195

New charges were filed late Friday against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in the special counsel investigation.Prosecutors allege that Manafort, with the assistance of longtime business partner Rick Gates, "secretly retained a group of former senior European politicians to take positions favorable to Ukraine, including by lobbying in the United States."The new indictment came less than two hours after Gates pleaded guilty to two criminal charges in federal court and pledged to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia and the 2016 presidential election.Prosecutors say Manafort orchestrated a group of former European politicians, called the "Hapsburg group," to pose as independent voices. Yet they covertly pushed positions favorable to Ukraine as paid lobbyists. Manafort used offshore accounts to pay the former politicians 2 million euros.Manafort also allegedly used million from an offshore account to fund a report on the trial of a political opponent jailed by his clients. A lawyer involved in the report -- Alex van der Zwaan -- pleaded guilty to lying to investigators earlier this week. The new charges, which sweep up some information Gates has conceded to investigators and other information in charges filed Thursday in Virginia federal court, include money laundering, foreign lobbying violations and making false statements.Manafort has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.Gates admitted in a guilty plea Friday that he and Manafort had sent letters to the Justice Department in November 2016 and last February that falsely asserted they hadn't lobbied on behalf of Ukraine in the United States. The federal investigation into their lobbying work began in September 2016, about a month after Manafort left Trump's campaign. The new indictment also removes Gates from the charges, and also removes several counts from the original October indictment. In total, Manafort now faces five federal criminal charges in Washington, including money laundering and foreign lobbying violations, and 18 federal charges in Virginia, largely related to alleged bank fraud.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
