Hospital employees from the Naval Hospital Jacksonville have been removed from patient care after disturbing photos involving newborns went viral on Monday.The viral post, that has been shared more than 185,000 times, shows screenshots taken from the employees' Snapchat accounts. In the images, the employee is seen sticking up her middle finger to a newborn, captioned with "How I currently feel about these mini Satans." (AP) — A man serving a life sentence in the death of his estranged wife led authorities to where he buried her body in Michigan eight years ago in exchange for an Xbox, according to authorities.Doug Stewart, 29, will also be allowed to participate in some prison programs, the Sturgis Journal reported.On Monday, he took detectives to a wooded area in Kalamazoo County where he had buried Venus Stewart, 32. He'd left two stumps at the site as a landmark."I knew I couldn't forget where she was," he told WWMT-TV.Doug Stewart was living in Virginia when his estranged wife disappeared in April 2010 from her parents' home in Michigan. Venus Stewart had moved after accusing her husband of domestic violence and molesting their daughter, according to police reports.Doug Stewart was convicted of first-degree murder in 2011, based largely on the testimony of Ricky Spencer. Spencer told authorities that he had been persuaded to impersonate Doug Stewart while the man drove to Michigan.Authorities have been visiting with Stewart annually since his sentencing to try and get information about the body's location."The criminal portion has been closed. We just kept at it to help find closure for Venus' family," said Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Todd Peterson.Stewart had long maintained that he hadn't been involved in the killing, but said things changed when his sister began to reconcile with his wife's family. The good Samaritan driver said he saw the thief take off from the parking lot in a suburb of Cincinnati and told the dad to get in his car.Then they chased him together."Oh my god, he stole my truck! My kids are in the truck!" a man who identified himself as Courtney Wells yelled in a 911 call. "I'm in the car with somebody. We're chasing him. He stole my kids! Please, I got three kids in that car."The dispatcher asked Wells to calm down and tell him where they were driving. After a few moments, Wells came to a shocking realization."Did he turn? Oh my god, I think we lost him," Wells cried.The driver told the 911 dispatcher that he just happened to be there when the thief took off."I saw what happened so I said, 'Come on!"The thief sped off and crossed the center line several times trying to elude them, police said."We were so close. We were right there ... Oh, god, he was flying," the driver said on the 911 call.The suspect got away from them, but all ended well when the children - two 4-year-olds and a 1-year-old - were found safe and the suspect was arrested, police said.Someone claiming to be the father later posted a Facebook message that thanked the driver who helped him. GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization has an unwelcome but potentially life-saving message for the holiday season: Don’t hug. To stop the spread of the coronavirus, WHO’s emergencies chief, Dr. Michael Ryan, said Monday that the “shocking” rate of COVID-19 cases and deaths, particularly in the U.S., mean that people shouldn’t get too close to their loved ones this year. That means with or without a mask on. “The epidemic in the U.S. is punishing. It’s widespread," said Dr. Michael Ryan. "It’s quite frankly, shocking, to see one to two persons a minute die in the U.S. — a country with a wonderful, strong health system (and) amazing technological capacities,” he said.Dr. Ryan called the pandemic “brutal” in the U.S., which accounts for about a third of all COVID-19 cases globally. As of Tuesday morning, there were more than 67 million confirmed cases of coronavirus around the world since the pandemic started, and almost 15 million of those cases are in the U.S. There are just over 1.5 million deaths from COVID-19 around the world, and almost 285,000 of them are in the U.S. Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s technical lead on COVID-19, said most transmission happens among people who tend to spend a lot of time together sharing meals and indoor spaces, in workplaces or homes — but it’s sometimes hard to “disentangle” how exactly the virus was spread.Added Ryan: “It’s a horrible thing to think that we would be here as the World Health Organization saying to people, ‘Don’t hug each other.’ It’s terrible.” 1529
