Anyone with info call 727-893-7780 pic.twitter.com/zoICcaYvpI— St. Pete Police (@StPetePD) July 7, 2020 The area is used by several drivers to cut to busy 34th Street South and police officers hope someone may have seen something suspicious while driving on 38th Avenue S.The area where the remains were found does not have any surveillance cameras and is not in direct view of many homes or businesses, according to detectives.Officers spent hours Tuesday looking in the wooded area around the overpass but did not find the rest of the body.Ernest Lee lives in the neighborhood and says he was in disbelief Tuesday morning as the path he walks several times a week turned into a crime scene.“I do a lot of walking and we have a whole community that walks around here so I’m surprised none of us came across it," Lee explained. “The whole neighborhood is concerned because that could be someone we know.”Detectives say the woman who found the remains told police she jogs in the area often but did not see anything suspicious during her previous run in the same area over the weekend.Rafael Lopez, a spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department says it is too early to determine the gender, age or race of the remains. Lopez also said the head was decomposed and it is unknown how long the remains may have been present near the road.“We do have a wooded area on both ends so although we are in the center of the city, it occurred in a pocket where it is pretty hard to determine if anyone saw anything at all," Lopez added. "We’re asking the public if they saw anything or were around this area in the last several days to give us a call.”This story is developing. Good Samaritans and authorities rescued a couple in their 70s whose vehicle crashed into a Long Island canal following a collision with another vehicle Monday.Police say it happened when a Ford pickup truck and a Subaru were involved in a motor vehicle crash at Venetian Promenade and Montauk Highway in Suffolk County, New York. When the Subaru backed up following the crash, police say it collided with a Mercury.The Mercury crashed through a fence and fell into a canal.Video shows the moment the car was partially submerged in the water.Five good Samaritans and two Suffolk County police officers jumped into the water to rescue the couple.Joseph Abitabile, 78, was driving the Mercury. He was rescued from the vehicle, along with his wife, Delores, 76, who was unconscious.An off-duty Lake Success police officer administered CPR, restoring the woman's pulse and breathing back to normal.The Abitabiles, one good Samaritan, the two Suffolk County officers and the driver of the Subaru were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) — Police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of actor Eddie Hassell during a random robbery at a suburban Dallas apartment complex parking lot over the weekend. Grand Prairie police say D'jon Antone was arrested on a capital murder charge Wednesday at his home in Dallas. Hassell was known for his roles in the NBC show "Surface" and the 2010 film "The Kids Are All Right." Police have said 30-year-old Hassell, who lived in Waco, was fatally shot around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday in Grand Prairie.Police said when they arrived at the scene, they located Hassell, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
