SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit tells 10news he's awaiting coronavirus test results for five police officers.Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the days remain busy for police, whether helping those in need, enforcing beach closures, or responding to calls. That means interactions with people who may have COVID-19."I'm waiting for results for five officers. The officers remain isolated right now. We've had some officers' tests come back negative, so that's great news," said Chief Nisleit.A police spokesperson told 10news officers have been self-reporting possible exposure, both on-duty and off-duty. A medical expert then determines if they should be tested. "We have some officers that are showing symptoms, and then we have some other officers that are isolated because they've been exposed," said Chief Nisleit.The precautions being taken by law enforcement across the county include sanitizing vehicles and social distancing, and if physical contact with the public is necessary, the use of masks, goggles and gloves. A spokesperson from Oceanside Police says they're doing more phone or online reports when possible. Dispatch and officers are also asking more questions about cold and flu-like symptoms.A video from the Chula Vista Department tells the public, "We may ask you to wear a mask." Starting Friday, Chula Vista Police will be taking an extra step. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A potential partnership between the San Diego Unified School District and UC San Diego could help prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the school district.On Tuesday, officials with SD Unified and UC San Diego will discuss a collaborative effort that will provide COVID-19 testing -- with rapid results -- for district students and staff members every two weeks.Under the proposed testing program, all students and staff would be tested even if no symptoms are shown. The plan is to get their more than 100,000 students and 15,000 staff members tested twice a month.School Board Vice President Richard Barrera said, “We can’t wait for the federal and state government to provide so we can reopen our schools. We have to take the initiative ourselves ... being able to test on our campuses both students and staff is the best way to get large numbers of people being tested. UC San Diego would bring health professionals onto our campuses to do the testing.”San Diego Unified School District schools are currently in Phase One of the district's reopening plan. Under Phase One, which began Oct. 13, teachers have returned to campuses to provide appointment-based, in-person instruction for elementary school students identified as having “the greatest needs.”Phase Two of the district’s reopening plan would begin for elementary school students on Jan. 4, 2021. (AP) — Long Beach police say a shuttle bus driver who took passengers on a long, scary ride wasn't kidnapping them: he was just lost.Passengers began jumping out of the bus windows Thursday night when their expected five-minute ride to the "Dark Harbor" Halloween event at the Queen Mary tourist attraction turned into a long ride into neighboring Carson.The Long Beach Press-Telegram says police report the driver became disoriented by street closures.Some of the 20 to 30 passengers on board said the driver refused to heed their demands to stop the bus. Cellphone video showed some jumping out of windows. After several 911 calls, authorities stopped the bus.Authorities say they're still looking into a battery allegation that the driver punched a man who wanted him to stop.Passengers told KABC-TV they pleaded with the driver to stop and let them off but he wouldn't respond, and when he struck a rider they began jumping out the bus windows. 971
