Sexting among teens and younger children has increased over the past decade and poses a growing challenge for educators and parents, according to a new study. One in four young people said they'd received sexts, and one in seven reported sending them, according to the study, which was published Monday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. The research included data from 39 separate research projects conducted between January 1990 and June 2016, with a total of 110,380 participants, all of whom were under 18 -- with some as young as 11.The researchers focused on data since 2008 and found an increase in sexting among young people. The increased number of young people involved in sending or receiving sexually explicit photographs or messages has corresponded with rapidly expanding access to cell phones. With that trend in mind, the study's authors suggest that "age specific information on sexting and its potential consequences should regularly be provided as a component of sex education."Why sext? 1013

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured intruders surprised by an alarm during a burglary in Spring Valley Wednesday night. The break-in unfolded in Eva Bradley's home off Paradise Valley Road while she was at work. "I'm sad, upset and angry." said Bradley.Just before 11 p.m., a guest bedroom window was forced open. A surveillance camera was rolling in the bedroom of Bradley's 8-year-old son, who was not home. "Scary, scary. Just glad we weren't home. Such as violation," said Bradley. In the video, a person is seen shining a flashlight in the dark. He leaves and another intruder, wearing a hoodie, enter the room and opens a drawer. Moments later, the camera is struck and falls over. Soon after in the living room, the burglar with the flashlight - now toting a bag - is sneaking through the room before he triggers the motion sensor and the alarm. He and another figure then run out of the room. The break-in was cut short, but the thieves made off with iPads and jewelry, including a gold and diamond-shaped ruby ring which Bradley's grandmother wore every day before she died."I didn't get a chance to say goodbye before she passed away ... It's the only physical thing I have to remember her by," said Bradley. Bradley is likely not the only victim. A short time later, a person resembling the thief with the hoodie was recorded in the same area, ringing a doorbell and likely looking for another target. The thieves also fit the description of car burglars who have hit the neighborhood in recent weeks.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1612

SOMER, Wis. -- A couple from the Village of Somers, Wisconsin was forced to leave their home because of erosion. The house is teetering on the ground above Lake Michigan.Tom and Marge Lindgren were sitting in their kitchen last weekend when they heard a loud crash. "I heard a crash and jumped up. I looked out and the porch went crashing down.I ran up packed a bag and my wife packed a bag and we grabbed the dog and got outta here," said Lindgren. Shoreline erosion along Lake Michigan has been a problem for decades. Some homeowners invest in heavy rock barricades to fight the high waves.Lindgren received a 0,000 estimate to stabilize the bluff, but it's a price he can’t pay."I lived here as a kid. I went to school here. It's gone. I've still got to find a new place to stay," said Lindgren.Lindgren has talked to officials with the Village of Somers. They came out and boarded up his home.A GoFundMe account has been set up for the couple. 1006

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea's spy agency has told lawmakers that North Korea executed at least two people, banned fishing at sea and locked down its capital as part of frantic anti-coronavirus steps.South Korean lawmakers cited the country's National Intelligence Service as saying that North Korea executed two top officials earlier this year. One of those killed was a high-profile money changer who North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held responsible for a falling exchange rate amid the pandemic. The second official was executed for violating government regulations that restrict goods being brought into the country from abroad. In addition, Kim recently placed Pyongyang and Jagang province under lockdown as COVID-19 spreads in the country. He's also banned fishing and salt production at sea to "prevent seawater from being infected with the virus," lawmakers said.Kim has also ordered diplomats overseas to refrain from any acts that could provoke the United States because it is worried about President-elect Joe Biden's expected new approach toward the North. One lawmaker cited the agency as saying North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is displaying excessive anger and taking irrational measures over the pandemic and its economic impact. 1255
