(KGTV) - A rash of water balloons turned ‘missiles’ have shaken up drivers on roadways near Highway 67 in Poway.Ron Woodard was heading home from work on Poway Road around 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was going about the speed limit - 55 miles per hour - when he saw the headlights of an oncoming vehicle as it drove past him."All of a sudden my windshield explodes. Glass is flying. Glass flies in my face. Luckily, I had my glasses on," said Woodard.Woodard, a trucker by trade, maintained control. He was only feet from a cliff."It shocked me, like being slapped in the face," said Woodard.He pulled over when he could safely do so, and checked out the damage."The water was dripping down the middle of the glass," said Woodard.Water, as in a water balloon. "When I saw this my anger just went out the roof. I could have lost control. I could have rolled my car," said Woodard.Woodard's wife posted details on Facebook, leading to reports of four other similar incidents in the Poway and Ramona area in the past few weeks, including two others that same night."One lady said it was a truck, and it was a water balloon," said Woodard.Another driver discovered ice chunks after he was hit, apparently from a frozen water balloon. (AP) — An Oregon man who was rescued after five days stuck in deep snow with his dog is deeply grateful to his rescuers and embarrassed to have caused so much trouble, his aunt told The Associated Press on Monday.Jeremy Taylor's 4-wheel-drive vehicle got stuck Feb. 24 in snow on a U.S. Forest Service road as he headed to do some off-road driving in the wilderness outside the central Oregon city of Bend.As night fell, Taylor, 36, decided to sleep in his car with his Australian shepherd, Ally, and hike out the next day, his aunt, Denise Tremaine said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.Taylor fashioned some snowshoes from pieces of the roof rack he uses for his kayak and started off on Feb. 25. But after a mile (1.6 kilometers), Taylor had to turn around because the dog was sinking in the deep snow and could not continue.Taylor carried Ally back to the car and the two hunkered down there, sharing a sleeping bag to keep warm. Taylor had a full tank of gas and was able to blast the heat briefly when it got unbearably cold and ate a few packets of taco sauce he had with him, she said.He and the dog drank melted ice, but she said she does not think Taylor fed the dog hot sauce."That's his world right there, that dog. She goes everywhere with him," Tremaine said of the dog. "He would never, ever leave that dog in the car."Eventually, Tremaine said, heavy snow from more snowstorms made it impossible for Taylor to open his vehicle's door.At one point, he saw an airplane overhead and raced to push the snow off the car's roof so rescuers might see him, but it did not work. He did not have a cellphone with him or any emergency supplies, she added."He didn't take the provisions he should have. I gave him a little of that talk and I'm just glad he's alive, because I think there was a point there when he didn't think he was going to make it," she said.What Taylor did not know is that by Feb. 27, his friends had realized that the self-employed building contractor was missing. He had not shown up to work and no one had heard from him, so friends reported him missing.Search and rescue crews combed the forests outside Bend by snowmobile, airplane and drone and as word spread on social media, friends and acquaintances searched on their own using snowmobiles.On Friday afternoon, a snowmobiler found Taylor and he and his dog were brought out of the woods on a snowcat, a type of snow tractor, and they were reunited with family and friends.He returned home to find his roof was damaged from heavy snow and his water pipes were frozen, Tremaine said.On Monday, he headed back to work and ignored interview requests from TV bookers and messages to talk with public relations representatives for Taco Bell, among others, she said. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies Saturday were investigating a homicide at a North County apartment complex.Sheriff's deputies responded to the Sofi apartment complex on Midland Rd. at about 1:45 a.m., deputies said.Early Saturday morning, the San Diego Sheriff's Department received a call from Pomerado Hospital in Poway of a man who was brought in with a gunshot wound. Just after 3:00 a.m, Michael Walker died at the hospital.10News spoke to a neighbor, Christine Zobel. She was woken up at around 1:45 am after hearing commotion upstairs. "There was an altercation in the apartment on top of my children's room, and there was a gunshot that went through the wall and killed a man that was sleeping," Zobel said. Minutes after the shooting, Zobel saw Walker's wife drive him to the hospital. But he did not make it. "That could've gone through the floor and into my kids' room, or anybody around us could've been affected from this reckless event," Zobel said. Saturday afternoon, Sheriff's Homicide detectives arrested Manuula Save for murder. The investigation is ongoing. President Donald Trump said on Monday he is choosing among five women to nominate to the Supreme Court by the end of the week, and is pushing for the nominee to be confirmed by Election Day.Trump said that he has had conversations with his potential nominees, and could meet with them in person later in the week.“I’d rather see it all take place before the election,” Trump said to reporters.The nominee would replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Friday after a bout with metastatic pancreatic cancer. No matter the nominee, they will face one of the most challenging nomination processes ever seen.Election Day is just 43 days away, which will make for a shorter nomination process than typically seen. Also, the Senate generally takes the weeks leading up to the election off to allow for senators to campaign. Nomination hearings might force senators to stay closer to Washington in the critical days leading to the election.The timing has both frustrated and stymied Democrats. In 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would not consider President Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016. That left the Supreme Court down to eight justices for over an entire year.But this time, McConnell says its different with Republicans holding both the Senate and White House.“The American people re-elected our majority in 2016,” McConnell said. “They strengthened it further in 2018 because we pledged to work with President trump on the most critical issues facing our country. The federal judiciary was right at the top of the list. PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — An Oakland County, Michigan, judge ruled Monday to keep a high school sophomore in detention after violating probation by failing to complete online school work. The Oakland County Children’s Village TAG program provides several forms of therapy, counseling and educational support, but defense attorneys argue it is not an appropriate legal action.Judge Mary Ellen Brennan says she had to consider the actions that placed Grace on probation to begin with. Last fall, arguments between the teen and her mother turned violent. The judge says the mother was the victim and the daughter the aggressor.“How many times does she get to jump her mom before she’s a threat? How many times?” Judge Brennan said.“That is not the question in front of the court,” Defense Attorney Saima Khalil responded.“That’s the question I’m asking you. How many times?” said Judge Brennan.Fifteen-year-old Grace's story has gained national attention. She was placed in juvenile detention in June after violating probation by failing to complete online school assignments in May. The judge says the teen's mother repeatedly called a case worker for help.During court proceedings Monday, the defense pointed out that a lot of students struggled with virtual classwork, but the judge says Grace's mom was the one who made repeated calls to the case worker saying her daughter refused to get out of bed, wouldn't do her school work and needed help.Khalil and fellow defense attorney Jon Beirnet went head-to-head with Judge Brennan, who continued to bring up the original violation for Grace, which included physical altercations with her mother last fall."The probation violation had nothing to do with a violent act. There is no tampering of a GPS tether," a defense lawyer stated.That probation violation put the high school sophomore in juvenile detention during a pandemic.Grace attends Birmingham Groves High School, where she receives support for ADHD. Grace's school closed in March like everything else when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued a stay-home order.When classwork was made available online, Grace's attorney says it wasn't required. There was no academic or classroom consequence. Judge Brennan said Grace's mother had repeatedly called the case worker for help.Outside the courtroom, demonstrators demanded Grace's release."We must dismantle the school to prison pipeline," said Tylene Henry with Michigan Liberation Action Fund.The action fund is asking for support, not punishment.In the courtroom, Grace spoke before the judge."Each day I try to be a better person than I was the last," the teen said. "And I’ve been doing that since even before I was in this situation. And I’m getting behind in my actual schooling while here. The schooling here is beneath my level of education."Judge Brennan insisted Grace should continue in the detention program, which offers therapy while her mother takes parenting classes."The goal is you and mom safe healthy and happy in the home, we disagree about what that looks like," The judge said. "To get to that goal... you think you’re ready, I think you’re not. I think you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be; you're blooming there."There was another motion filed by the defense attorneys.
