Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz appears well-positioned for re-election over his Democratic challenger Rep. Beto O'Rourke, topping him 52% to 45% among likely voters, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds.Just 9% of likely Texas voters say there's a chance they could change their mind about the Senate contest before Election Day, although O'Rourke's voters are more apt to be locked in to their choice (92% say their minds are made up) than are Cruz's backers (87% say they've made a final decision).The two candidates are set to debate Tuesday night, and O'Rourke will participate in a CNN town hall later this week. O'Rourke's challenge has drawn tens of millions in donations, forcing Republicans to play defense in one of the few Republican Senate seats in play this election cycle. President Donald Trump even plans to host a rally for his former rival's benefit.The President could be an asset among those planning to vote in Texas. Trump's approval rating is net negative statewide, with 50% of adults disapproving of his handling of the presidency vs. 41% who approve. Among likely voters, however, 49% approve of Trump's job performance and 48% disapprove.The gender gap in this race is tighter than what CNN has measured in nationwide polling on the House generic ballot and in other Senate contests. In four other critical battlegrounds, the gender gap has been 30 points or higher in three states, and stood at 21 in the fourth. In this contest, it's a narrower 18 points. O'Rourke holds just a 2-point edge among women, the smallest for a Democrat among women in the states CNN has polled so far. The next closest is Jacky Rosen's 14-point lead among women in Nevada earlier this month in her race against Republican Sen. Dean Heller.In Texas, the race gap appears more meaningful than the gender gap. Latino voters break sharply in O'Rourke's favor, 62% to 35%, while white voters favor Cruz by a 2-to-1 margin, 66% to 33%.Likely voters in Texas place immigration at the top of their issue list: 26% call it the most important issue in deciding their vote, while 23% call the economy their top priority. Cruz leads among both sets of voters. O'Rourke has a wide edge among the 19% of voters who call health care their top issue. Eleven percent say their top issue is national security, 8% gun policy and 5% the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.Both Senate candidates hold net-positive favorability ratings with voters in Texas generally, and that holds among those most likely to vote. Cruz is viewed positively by 51% of Texas voters, 41% have an unfavorable view, and O'Rourke is seen favorably by 45%, with 36% holding a negative opinion. Cruz fares better among his own partisans (92% favorable among Texas Republicans) than O'Rourke does with Democrats in the state (81% favorable among Democrats).The poll also finds Texas Gov. Greg Abbott standing well ahead of his Democratic challenger in the poll -- 57% of likely voters support Abbott with 39% for Lupe Valdez.The CNN poll in Texas was conducted by SSRS October 9 through 13 among random statewide samples reached on landlines or cell phones by a live interviewer. Results for the full sample of 1,004 adults have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. TAMPA, Fla. — Within one month, someone splashed four cars with an acid-like liquid in busy Tampa parking lots.Deputies are not sure if the incidents are related. The most recent happened in a shared parking lot near the AMC Veterans movie theater and Starbucks off Anderson Road.The scenario is the same in all of these situations. Some sort of corrosive liquid is poured onto the doors of the cars which damages paint, metal and plastic on the car.Two panels on Gary Schaff’s 2015 white Mercedes had to be repainted. He was parked in the lot off Anderson Road two nights in a row as he and his family caught up on the latest Marvel movies at AMC."When we came out to the car which was a little bit of a walk away from the theater, it looked as if there was almost shaving cream or foam on the side of the car,” Schaff said. "We're like, what is that?”As his family got closer, they realized the white paint had bubbled up. By the time they got home a lot of it had flaked off and exposed the metal underneath. "I don't even know what I would say to someone who thinks it’s a good idea to do something like that,” Schaff said. "What does it accomplish exactly?"Hillsborough County deputies say a 2007 BMW was vandalized the same way in a Publix parking lot off N. Dale Mabry on April 11 and a 2017 Porsche SUV was damaged by a corrosive liquid in the Heath Integrated parking lot on April 23. All three attacked occurred within a few miles of each other. The Tampa Police Department responded to a 2011 Audi with similar damage at International Mall on April 15."It's just to me a completely random thing, and it's really hard to prevent,” Schaff said. "Have insurance on your car."While Schaff must pay a 0 deductible, his insurance company will cover the rest of the amount needed to repair the damage.He asked the movie theater about security cameras but believe the ones on the building catch the area of the parking lot his car was in."I hope the person gets caught, and brought to whatever justice there would be from this and learns a lesson not to do this,” said Schaff.Scripps station WFTS in Tampa reached out to the property owners of this parking lot to see what type of security they have and is waiting to get an official response. 2387

TAMPA, Fla. — A kitten in Florida is recovering after being stabbed in the face with a dart.Jennifer Tate volunteers with the St. Francis Society Animal Rescue and she can’t wait to bring home the kitten.“We saved a cat about two and half years ago that had been shot with an arrow and we named him Sir Robin. So, we thought it would be appropriate to name her Maid Marian, the love interest of Sir Robin Hood," said Tate.Hillsborough County Animal Services is trying to find out who’s responsible for hurting the cat.“The person that found her said she could not open her mouth, so it had pierced all the way through and actually into part of her throat," Tate said.Someone found the kitten on Aimiee Court, south of Bearss Avenue in Tampa.“It’s horrific. How does somebody walk up to a cat and jam something into her face? And walk away. How do you sleep at night," said Tate.If Maid Marian is ready, she’ll have surgery Friday at Gulf Coast Veterinary Center.Tate will foster her, but eventually, the hope is the kitten will be adopted.“We want her to have the best life and to be able to put this behind her. TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy died Saturday in a crash in Temecula, the Department confirmed. According to the Department, Deputy Matthew Creed died after being ejected during single-vehicle a crash on De Portola Road just east of Calle Arboles just after 9 a.m. Saturday. A preliminary investigation determined that the Ford F-150 was being driven at a high rate of speed when it hit the center median and flipped over.RELATED: Man dies after fiery South Bay crashThe truck came to a rest on its roof before catching fire.
