His brave actions have since been recognized many times. He was on his way to get lunch with his family when he heard an active shooter call on the scanner. Moments later, he spotted the suspect. Without backup, he convinced the Poway Synagogue shooter to surrender. Officer Wiese took him into custody.Wiese says his competitive spirit motivates him to be a better version of himself every day, to show resilience and strength for his community."If you feel like you're going to win, then incidents like this, like at Sunset Cliffs, 'I'm going to win this incident. I'm going to save these girls in this man.' At the synagogue, 'I'm going to win. I'm going to go home to my family, and he is going to go to jail. and the community is going to be safe.'" SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was accused of leaving her dog behind in a hot car in a Mission Valley parking lot while she was shopped Tuesday.The confrontation occurred at Fenton Marketplace in Mission Valley after a man noticed a dog locked in a car and called San Diego County Animal Control. Officers arrived two hours later and measured the temperature of the car, which was reportedly between 80 - 90 degrees.The windows of the vehicle had also been cracked a couple of inches.RELATED: How to save a dog from a hot car (if you're a Californian)When the vehicle's owner returned, the man who reported the situation confronted her. The woman told him she was from Oregon and it's common to leave dogs in the car.Her dog was reportedly fine and not under distress, despite spending two hours in the hot car.In California, it's illegal to leave a dog inside a hot car in dangerous conditions. The law was passed after several instances of dog deaths due to being left in cars on hot days. 1015

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After getting approved by voters, San Diego State is moving forward with its SDSU Mission Valley Plan. As they are still working out the finishing touches, community members are offering their suggestions to organizers. SDSU Mission Valley still calls for a stadium, housing for students and the public, retail space, offices and a river park. Local land use and design professionals met in Balboa Park this morning to offer their ideas on how to enhance and improve the existing plans."They want to make sure that this very large development... isn't like an island in the middle of Mission Valley," says Cary Lowe, with C3 San Diego. Community members want to ensure the project "connects fluidly with the surrounding community."There are other concerns, as well. Once construction begins, crews may have to remediate a gas plume that once sat under the site."A number of people have raised the issue of the subsurface contamination of the site," says Lowe. This has "been a long time issue because of a leak from fuel tanks in Murphy Canyon."Lowe says there is an elaborate plan for the possible contamination removal. But as negotiations continue, it is unclear if the city or university will be paying for it. Land use and design professionals estimate the project to begin towards the beginning of next year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb says it has cracked down on 17 listings in San Diego County that have received complaints or have violated policies surrounding parties.The rental booking company says the listings have either been suspended or removed from its platform following Airbnb's ban on parities and events at listings until further notice.The listings disciplined were located in the San Diego, Escondido, La Mesa, Clairemont Mesa, Linda Vista, Mission Bay Park, North Park, Pacific Beach, Peninsula, Southeastern San Diego, and Uptown.RELATED: San Diego shuts down Bankers Hill Airbnb ‘party house’ over COVID-19 concerns, other violations"In this current environment, it’s more important than ever before to prevent large parties and gatherings, and we support the efforts of local officials to put a stop to this irresponsible behavior," said John Choi, Airbnb’s Director of Public Policy in San Diego. Earlier this month, a guest held an unauthorized party at a home in Sacramento County, ending with three people being shot and injured at the party. The house-sharing company has also made it more challenging for some guests under the age of 25 from booking rentals in their region unless they have a number of positive reviews.
