SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) – A group of San Marcos neighbors say that a homeowner is terrorizing the community with threats and harassment, among other complaints. Neighbors are now banding together to sue him with the hope that he'll pack up and leave. Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner discovered that federal agents also seized explosives and ammunition from his house, that he wasn't supposed to have. Homeowner Mark Brody, though, denies all allegations of wrongdoing."You don't have to get along with all your neighbors. You don't have to be friends with all your neighbors, but you also don't have to terrorize them," says neighbor Heidi Hafley.Brody’s home sits behind a prominent security camera and high fences. “[It’s] a fortress,” says James Pyer, one of twelve neighbors who are suing Brody, accusing him in the lawsuit of threats, stalking, trespassing, and so on."This has been a nightmare," adds Hafley. She and Pyer got a restraining order against Brody.Court records show that Brody denies harming the neighborhood, but 10News dug into public records.According to a search warrant from last year, state investigators believed that Brody may have been harboring several weapons, even though he'd been banned from having firearms or ammo because of the restraining order. Agents reportedly found and seized 30 pounds of an explosive called tannerite that had to be turned over to a bomb squad. Additionally, they found four ammunition magazines and two rounds of caliber ammunition.“At one point they put everything in the middle of the street and told us to stand back,” says Hafley.This past May, he pleaded guilty to illegally having ammunition. He was given probation and community service.10News confirmed with the San Marcos Sheriff's Station that deputies have been called out to Brody's home more than 30 times since 2014. One Sheriff's report reveals accusations from neighbors that Brody had been shining a flashlight from his truck into Hafley's bedroom. In another report, neighbors claim he yelled that she was a "[expletive]".“I'm the main target now because I push back and I let him know [that] I'm not going to tolerate this,” she tells us.In fact, Brody tried to get a restraining order against Hafley, but failed.The City of San Marcos confirmed with 10News that there have been a number of code compliance violations issued to Brody.A cease and desist order from the City to Brody includes a photo of an unauthorized traffic control sign that Brody allegedly installed. Neighbors say that he spray painted the street, put in a speed bump and put up notices meant to insult his neighbors. Hafley adds that the signs would state, "'Watch for the cows crossing,’ which he's referencing myself and my neighbor. He would [write], ‘The old bat,” which is my nextdoor neighbor [and he would write], ‘The troll,’ which is me."Brody would not do an interview with 10News. In a court response, he wrote that he categorically denies the allegations and claims to have never acted [violently] towards the neighbors."We don't go out of our houses anymore. Children don't play on the street," says Hafley.She and the eleven others on the new lawsuit against him just want him to move out so they can move on. “I don't want any other neighborhood to go through this," she adds.Each neighbor is asking for at least ,000 in damages. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco became the first major U.S. city to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes after supervisors gave the measure its second and final vote Tuesday.Backers say they hope the legislation will curb underage use of e-cigarettes, but critics say the ban will make it harder for adults to purchase an alternative to regular cigarettes.San Francisco is a city that celebrates its marijuana culture, but it appears deeply opposed to other vices. SARASOTA, Fla. — A Florida woman says she fell ill with COVID-19 and passed the coronavirus onto her 99-year-old mother who lives with her.Ruta Jouniari said she felt sick in October. She had a fever, cough and headache."I literally couldn't breathe. I tried to take a breath and the pain in my lungs was so incredible," she said.Jouniari was hospitalized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for three days, but did not need oxygen."The nights were horrific, you have night sweats, shivering. You're achy. You can't breathe," she said.Her mother, who Jouniari is the primary caregiver of in her home, later tested positive for COVID-19.Jouniari said her mother never left the house, so she knows she brought the virus home, but she doesn't know where she contracted it.Her mother's age put her at a high risk of contracting the virus. Her mother, she added, suffered from a stroke about seven years ago."The guilt trip that goes with a child giving their parent COVID is not a fun reality of life," she said.Jouniari said her mother was hospitalized for 10 days. She was on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. Doctors treated her mother with plasma, remdesivir and dexamethasone."Going in, it's so frightening and you're so scared and you're scared for yourself when you're the patient, but you're even more scared knowing the statistics of a 99-year-old going in," said Jouniari.Jouniari said her mother left the hospital on Monday."For her to come out and come home today and she's in her own room, her own bed, breathing on two liters of oxygen. It's just amazing," she said.She urges everyone to take precautions and protect the vulnerable population."I hate to say this, but you could kill them. I was witness to that. I could have. My mom is a miracle of miracles. She's a statistic anomaly. She shouldn't have made it and she did," said Jouniari.She said she appreciates everyone who prayed for her mother. She said she is also thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for her mother."I had over 800 people praying for her and it was incredible...the power of that was just amazing," Jouniari said. "For those families who are suffering, I hope they have solace and peace, just pray hard and have faith just know that people at 99 make it out. SEATTLE (AP) — Cookware and kitchen chain Sur La Table is closing 56 of its 121 stores as it seeks bankruptcy protection, the latest retail casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. The privately-held Seattle-based company says it has agreed to sell its remaining stores to affiliates of Fortress Investment Group following the bankruptcy procedure and store closures. “This sale process will result in a revitalized Sur La Table, positioned to thrive in a post-COVID-19 retail environment," CEO Jason Goldberger said in the press release. "Sur La Table will have a balance sheet and retail footprint optimized to position the Company for a bright future that continues our nearly 50-year tradition of offering high-quality cooking products and experiences to our customers.”The post-sale company will also include its in-person and online cooking classes and its e-commerce business. SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Emergency crews have recovered a body after an incident at a Scottsdale aquatic park.Crews were at Eldorado Aquatic Park near Hayden and McDowell road early Monday morning.Scottsdale police say around 12:30 a.m.; an officer was making rounds in the area when he heard what sounded like muffled calls for help.He worked to locate where the calls may be coming from and eventually found them to be coming from a pipe that helps support one of the water slides.Officers were communicating with the victim, said to be a transient, but lost communication with him around 2 a.m.Officials say the man reportedly went up over a tall fence surrounding the park and was up on the slide. He then somehow fell into the pipe structure, where he became trapped.Crews had to dismantle the slide in order to get the victim's body out.He has since been identified as 31-year-old Ryan Kelly.
