INDIANAPOLIS — In her speech Friday night at the Young Democrats of America convention, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the past ideals and current policies of the Democratic Party. She praised the party’s history on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. “We are not a monolith, and we don’t want to be,” she said. But she also touted the diversity of the current House Democratic Caucus, which she said is 60% women, people of color and LGBT.“Our diversity is our strength,” she said. Pelosi then went into more detail about the party’s current efforts in Congress, starting with the recent passage of an increase of the federal minimum wage to per hour. Both Democratic representatives from Indiana voted in favor of the proposal, but it is very unlikely to pass the Senate. She discussed what other things House Democrats are working on in Congress, such as net neutrality, gun violence prevention and climate change. Pelosi also mentioned President Donald Trump a few times. “We legislate, we investigate, and we litigate,” she said. “And we will hold the president accountable.”She ended the speech by returning to the past, quoting Thomas Paine, one of the country’s founding fathers. “The times have found us,” she recited. “Do you feel the times have found you now?”Michael Joyce, the spokesperson of the Republican National Committee, accused Pelosi of refusing to act on “anything Hoosiers want to see accomplished in Washington.”“Pelosi’s turbulent tenure as Speaker has allowed the socialist squad to takeover driving the message for the Democrats, and they’re currently driving their party off a cliff to a path of irrelevancy come 2020,” Joyce said. 1685

INDIANAPOLIS — A boy was hit by a car Monday afternoon on the west side of Indianapolis after somehow leaving his Indianapolis Public School. Now, the boy's parents want answers. "They failed me and my child, severely. My son could've been killed," Pearl Barnett, parent of IPS student who was hit by a car, said. "This is a mother's worst nightmare."First-grader, Frank Barnett, who has autism, has been through a lot the past 48 hours."I'd like to see justice for my son. I really would," Pearl said. "Because, unfortunately, he's nonverbal. He can't speak for himself."According to Frank's Individualized Education Program through Stephen Foster School 67, he is never to be left alone. The 7-year-old's mother wants to know how he was able to leave the west side school, somehow wander to a family friend's home nearby, and get hit by a car. "I got in the ambulance, and he had a gauge here where his skull was actually showing. And a busted chin," Pearl said. "I mean he was just covered in blood."Later — a concussion, nearly 50 stitches, and bruising head-to-toe — Frank had to spend the night in the hospital and is now recovering. His mother feels the school screwed up, letting him escape and didn't react quick enough to protect him.All of this happened during dismissal when students are trying to exit the school building — a time when Frank should have been riding home on the bus."He gets curb to curb service due to the autism. And when he gets in one of those moods, depending on what happened at that time of the incident, he runs," Pearl informed. "And they're all aware of this. It's stated in his IEP which I do have that he should never be left unattended. He's always got to be with another adult which he was not."IPS would not speak on camera about this — saying he broke away from a staff member and ran out of the building. School administrators immediately called IPS Police as they searched for him. The school says they followed all of the proper protocols, but would not share what those protocols were. In the coming days, Instagram users will be getting a bit less info about those in their social network.A number of Instagram users have noticed that the "Following" tab under the mobile app's notification page has disappeared. The "Following" tab showed snippets of activity of the users a person follows. For example, it would show if a person you follow had liked a set of photos marked with the same hashtag, or show if a particular user liked a significant amount of posts from a given account. The feature allowed users to find more accounts and content that he or she might enjoy. But, as anyone who has spent significant time on Instagram can tell you, likes can be revealing.Ever get on Instagram at work or school? Or like an ex's photo without your significant other's knowledge? Technically, all of your followers could see that activity in the "following tab."It was almost an open secret that the "Following" tab was the 945
