RANCHO PENASQUITOS (KGTV) - Teens playing basketball in Rancho Penasquitos said they were robbed Saturday night. Police said during the pursuit of a car that matched the description, it crashed and rolled onto the roof.One suspect was injured from the crash as he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was trapped in the car and arrested.Police say two other suspects, identified as a black man in his 20s and a Hispanic man in his early 20s fled the vehicle.K9s searched the area for the suspects.Ed Solis, the father of one of the boys who was robbed, said it was his son's 18th birthday and they were celebrating at home.Toward the end of the party, the guys wanted to play basketball at Views West Park. They left their belongings in a pile and noticed a group of men stealing their wallets and phones.The teens went after the attempted robbers and were able to catch one. Solis said one of the men came back and threatened the boys, saying he had a gun and would "smoke them."The boys let the man go and then called Solis about the robbery. He rushed over, and found all the boys were safe and unharmed, but shaken.Officers caught up with the suspect vehicle at 14500 Penasquitos Drive where it flipped.Some of the boys got their items back, while others did not. 1319

President Donald Trump's stance on guns has not wavered a day after he set up a meeting with National Rifle Association officials, the White House said Friday.Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA's lobbying arm Thursday evening, who quickly tweeted that Trump and Pence "don't want gun control."That's an apparent shift from Trump's comments during a meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers Wednesday, when he signaled his support for policies -- such as strengthening background checks to raising the minimum age to buy certain guns and taking guns away from the mentally ill -- that are vehemently opposed by the gun lobby.Asked if Trump's thinking has changed since Wednesday's meeting, Sanders said, "not that I'm aware of." She said the only specific promise Trump made to the NRA was that "he'll support the Second Amendment. That's not something that he's backed away from. RANCHO PENASQUITOS -- A group of residents in Rancho Pe?asquitos is sounding the alarm about a trio of dense developments that could add 1,500 housing units within 1.5 miles of each other.The group, called PQ-NE Action, notes the northwest part of Rancho Pe?asquitos only has one road in and out. They are raising concerns that the road could not handle the influx in the case of an emergency, such as a wildfire evacuation. "We fully understand things are going to change, but not change to a point where the neighborhood becomes threatened from a safety standpoint," said Junaid Razvi, a 40-year resident and spokesman for the group. Two more could be on the site of the Hotel Karlan, which shut down Dec. 31. The hotel portion of the property could be rebuilt into as many as 370 homes. The Encinitas-area development company that owns it did not respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, Lennar is proposing to build more than 530 new housing units on the hotel's old golf course.PQ-NE Action is now calling on Councilman Mark Kersey to step in. "They are moving fast on this, and so we would like to see a pause," Razvi said. Susan Collins, of Maine, is calling embattled EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt "the wrong person" to head the agency "on policy grounds alone."Collins voted against Pruitt's confirmation, and said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that his actions on the environment, "whether it's trying to undermine the Clean Power Plan or weaken the restrictions on lead or undermine the methane rules," validate her decision.Pruitt has come under fire for a string of ethically questionable actions over the past year, including renewed questions over the amount he is spending on his large security detail?and over his travel and housing arrangements."This daily drop of accusations of excessive spending and ethical violations serve to further distract the agency from accomplishing its very important mission," Collins said.
