SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It’s been more than seven decades since the creation of the beloved children’s character, Thomas the Tank Engine. The pandemic nearly derailed a local museum’s yearly family event.“This year is the 75th year of the creation of the book series, called ‘The Railway series,’ where Thomas was born,” said Katy Titus with the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. The Balboa Park museum hosts a Thomas Day Celebration every year. Thousands of kids, families, and train lovers stop at “Big Station” for the big event. Unfortunately, this year will be different.“Instead of Thomas taking over the physical museum, Thomas is going to take over our web presence,” says Titus.Thomas Takeover Week will run until Sunday. It’s a free virtual event.Visitors can explore the virtual exhibit. There are activities online for kids like arts and crafts. Students can also enjoy storytime, listening to “The Railway Series.”The San Diego Model Railroad Museum had to close its doors twice this year due to the pandemic. The museum is collecting donations that will be used to maintain the railroad collections and create more virtual programs. 1148

The team is giving its first look at next year's new brown uniforms this fall. The Padres are set to debut their new 2020 uniforms at an event on Nov. 9 at Petco Park, a team spokesperson confirmed to 10News. The news originally dropped after President of Business Operations Erik Greupner revealed the date on Twitch.Since January, fans have waited in anticipation of seeing the new brown uniforms after the team announced the color change. The team had until May to submit their final proposal for the new threads the Friars will wear.RELATED: San Diego Padres introduce Jayce Tingler as new managerPadres' Yates wins Baseball Digest's top reliever awardFocus group testing was held, giving select fans a peak at variations featuring brown and gold combinations. The Padres haven't released a sample of the uniform yet though. The change comes as Nike inked a 10-year deal to be the MLB's official uniform and footwear supplier starting in 2020. Some form of brown and mustard was used in Padres' jerseys until 1984. The inclusion of brown was abandoned after the 1990 season when the team took on a blue and orange color scheme. Brown only began making its way back into the Padres' uniforms in 2016, when the team featured it as throwback uniforms for select games. But the hope now for many fans: New Padres threads, young talent, and a world championship on the horizon. 1434

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lime can still operate its dockless scooters and bikes in San Diego, after the city's petition to revoke the company's permit was denied.Tuesday, a hearing officer reportedly refused the city's petition to revoke Lime's Shared Mobility Device (SMD) permit. The city argued that Lime violated municipal code on several occasions.“Lime is pleased with today’s decision and we appreciate the hearing officer for recognizing our compliance in San Diego. As San Diego’s longest serving operator, we value our partnership with the City and look forward to continuing to serve the community," Lime said in a statement.RELATED: City Council committee OKs changes to dockless scooter, bike lawIn August, Lime was made aware of the city's intent to revoke their SMD permit after they said the company failed to address speeding violations within the city's geofenced areas. A letter to Lime from the city's Development Services Department claimed the company had violated San Diego Municipal Code on July 13, July 14, and Aug 1.Dockless scooters and bikes are required to have a 8 mph speed restriction in high-traffic areas areas like Spanish landing and near Petco park, and as low as 3 mph along the Embarcadero and the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade."The Mayor has made it abundantly clear that operators who don’t follow rules meant to protect public safety could lose their permit and no longer do business in San Diego anymore. That’s exactly what is being done in this case," a statement from the city said.Lime argued that they were in fact in compliance, adding at the time "it is unfortunate they have chosen to move forward with this hearing" and offering to demonstrate their compliance to the city in a letter from Lime to Mayor Kevin Faulconer. After approving an initial package of rules in April, the city council is set to consider adding new regulations on dockless scooters and bicycles, including:A rider curfew from midnight to 5 a.m.;Usage of one device per government ID;A fine structure and punitive actions for companies that violate regulations;Eliminating the original ordinance's provision that allows for temporary fleet spikes during large events;Authorizing the city to reduce a company's fleet size if it poses a public safety hazard;Authorizing the city to suspend a company outright for multiple violations; andRequiring the eventual use of geofencing technology to keep riders from traversing the city's sidewalks. 2468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Light scattered showers fell throughout the day from Mission Valley to Carmel Valley. While Sunday's rainfall marked the first fall rain for the region, Alex Tardy with the National Weather Service said that rain will disappear by Monday. “We're looking at conditions that are bone dry, record dry. It’s never been this dry before and just a little bit of rain like this, while it's nice and we won’t have any fires [Sunday], once the dry air starts blowing through on Monday and continues into Tuesday, it's not going to make much of a difference,” Tardy said.RELATED: In-depth: Why La Ni?a could make wildfire season worseTardy said that San Diego may go long stretches without rainfall this season as we move into a dry La Ni?a winter. However, when the rain eventually comes, it could come in sporadic heavy storms. Tardy also added that the conditions will have fire crews on high alert for weeks. “It also means a delay in the start of our winter so we could be in for a very long fall period where we mostly see dry conditions,” Tardy says. “What that means for us is that fire danger [could be] continuing into the fall and well into the early winter.” 1186
