SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An Arizona man who carried out a series of knifepoint rapes in the city of San Diego 24 years ago, as well as two rapes in Riverside County in 2002 and 2004, was sentenced Thursday to 50 years to life in prison.Christopher Vanbuskirk, 47, of Goodyear, pleaded guilty last year to six rape counts for attacking the women on four occasions between August and November of 1995 in San Diego, as well as two women in the Coachella Valley area of Riverside County in March 2002 and November 2004.Prosecutors said the four San Diego cases occurred twice in the Tierrasanta neighborhood, once in Pacific Beach and once near San Diego Mesa College. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver was going 121 mph when he caused a fiery freeway pileup that killed two men and seriously injured a woman on Interstate 15 last year, a prosecutor told jurors Tuesday, but a defense attorney claimed an off-duty San Diego police sergeant is actually to blame for the deaths.Jeffrey Brian Levi, 39, is charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, for the Jan. 2, 2018, deaths of 33-year-old Jesus David Dominguez and 19-year-old Isaac Felix, who were burned to death inside a Toyota Corolla that was struck at about 11:45 that night in the fast lane of northbound Interstate 15 near Miramar Road.Giovanna Dominguez -- Jesus Dominguez's sister and Felix's girlfriend - - was also a passenger in the Corolla. The county had confirmed 109 cases at this time last year.Only two residents have died due to flu complications since the county's flu season started July 1. At this time last flu season, the county had not recorded a flu death.County health officials expect flu cases to spike as the year approaches the holiday season and gets deeper into autumn and winter."The holiday season is right around the corner," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man who provided alcohol to an underage drinker who subsequently caused a crash that killed her passenger was sentenced to 240 days in custody, the City Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. Fraidoon Ahmad gave alcohol to Yolanda Lozano and Mabel Bahena, both 19, on Feb. 17, 2017. Lozano later drove while drunk and collided with a truck on Interstate 15, killing Bahena. Lozano pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was sentenced to one year in custody, with Bahena's family asking a judge for leniency as the two women had been best friends since grade school. Ahmad pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and furnishing alcohol to a minor causing great bodily injury and death.
