BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's insurance capital investments hit 2.45 trillion yuan (358 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of this year, according to the country's insurance regulator.     In July alone, the investments from insurance funds stood at 120.4 billion yuan, China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) said in a report on its website.     Of the total insurance investment value, about 332 billion yuan, or 9.8 percent, went to the stock markets by the end of the second quarter of this year.     During the same period, mutual funds investments suck 228.45 billion yuan, or 6.8 percent from the insurance capital.     A booming equities market and an optimistic attitude towards the country's stock markets had led to an increasing investments, said the CIRC.     Comparatively, in the first seven months, bank deposit of China's insurance capital decreased to 1.03 trillion yuan, 15.23 billion yuan less than in the first six months.     The CIRC's statistics also reflected a slowdown increasing rate in premium income in the first seven months. Premium income was 678.64 billion yuan, representing a small increase of 80 billion yuan than the June figure.

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The cooperation between the United States and China has never been so important as it is now, and the just-concluded U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) has provided a platform to reinforce common interests, a senior U.S. official has said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.     "We have broadened the dialogue ... and the S&ED is a new approach towards the U.S.-and-China relations," David Loevinger, Treasury executive secretary and senior coordinator for China Affairs and the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, told Xinhua on Tuesday night.     "There was a common understanding that U.S.-China cooperation and engagement on economic issues have never been so important because of the challenges that we face in the global economy and global financial market right now," said Loevinger.     He said he was struck by the fact that both sides have so much in common in the discussion.     "The U.S. and China have a very similar outlook on the global economy and adopted very similar policy response," said Loevinger, once a Treasury Department's Financial Attache in China. "Both U.S. and China act very quickly and aggressively on global economic crisis."     "The monetary and fiscal stimulus in both countries was among the most aggressive and most far-reaching of any major economy," he also noted.     However, during the dialogue, China also expressed its concern over the security of its heavy investment. So far, China has invested more than 1.5 trillion dollars in the United States government-issued securities.     "We are deeply concerned about the security of our financial assets in the United States," Zhu Guangyao, China's assistant finance minister, told Xinhua.     Wang Qishan, Chinese vice premier and co-chair of the S&ED, also urged the United States to protect China's assets during the dialogue.     Loevinger indicated that the United States understands China's concern and explained to the Chinese side the U.S. monetary and fiscal policies during the two-day dialogue, which ended on Tuesday.     "(Federal Reserve) Chairman Bernanke talked about the Federal Reserve's approach to U.S. monetary policy," Loevinger said, referring to an op-ed Bernanke published last week in the Wall Street Journal, in which he talked about tightening monetary policy to prevent the emergence of an inflation once economic recovery is assured.     "Bernanke discussed many of these issues with China," he added.

BUDAPEST, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai has expressed optimism in having a better future in ties with China upon the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Bajnai described China as a reliable international partner in a recent interview with Xinhua, saying that Hungary was one of the first to establish diplomatic ties with the fledgling country.     Having visited China in November 2008, he said he has been deeply impressed with the country's dynamic development.     "The high-standard professional exchange of views with Chinese negotiation partners in the central and local governments and withbusiness leaders have already yielded concrete results in the Hungarian-Chinese economic relations, to the benefit of both countries," said the prime minister.     He welcomed the forthcoming visit of Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, saying the visit will offer an opportunity for the two sides to talk about "further significant advances in bilateral economic cooperation."     The past decade has witnessed a 17-fold rise in trade between Hungary and China, he said, adding that there had also been extensive growth in their cultural, educational, scientific and tourism cooperation.     Noting that China is one of Hungary's most significant Asian trade partners and Hungary one of China's most prominent in central and eastern Europe, Bajnai said further improvement of the relations with China has been a priority of the Hungarian foreign policy.     "Mutual investment and technological cooperation are important not only because they are profitable for businesses of both countries, but also because in hard economic times they create jobs, " he said.     He noted that China has been doing a splendid job in facing up to the challenges of the world economic depression. "If anyone had predicted to me in 1971 what China looks like in2009, I would have thought he was dreaming... but you have made a reality out of these dreams, " Kissinger said in a recent interview with Xinhua at his New York office on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct. 1.     Kissinger, who helped pave the way for the normalization of U.S.-China relations in 1979, said the 30-year-old bilateral relationship has grown remarkably. "They should constantly exchange ideas, so when they go into an international forum like the G20, they have parallel positions and can work together."     Energy and environment remain two major long-term challenges the world has to face, while nations worldwide have yet to coordinate in the globalized economic system, he said.     It is "the imperative of our time" that China and the United States cooperate on these global challenges, he said.     The Group of 20, or G20, should become an inclusive platform for international political and economic affairs for "the next few decades," he noted.
