BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Residential land prices in 35 major Chinese cities grew 8.63 percent on average in 2009, a Ministry of Land and Resources report published Friday said.Land prices for commercial buildings grew at a slower rate, 5.54 percent, while industrial land prices rose 2.04 percent.The report's release comes after land plots in major Chinese cities sold for record prices at auction, adding to concern that increased land prices have driven up housing prices.The ministry said in March residential property prices rose an average 25.1 percent from a year ago to 4,474 yuan (655.6 U.S. dollars) per square meter nationwide last year.The report also said land sales climbed 63.4 percent from a year earlier to 1.59 trillion yuan in 2009.Land supply for construction increased 44.2 percent year on year to 319,000 hectares in 2009 as the government accelerated infrastructure and property construction to boost domestic demand and ensure economic growth, the report said.

BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Major indices of China's large ports mostly pointed to better performance in April with increasing cargo throughput and exports volume, the Ministry of Transport said Wednesday.According to latest figures posted on the ministry's website, China's large sea ports and river ports saw rapid throughput growth in cargo, exported goods volume and containers from January to April.Passenger throughput via large ports, however, fell 18.5 percent from a year earlier to 295 million in the first four months of 2010, the ministry said.Large ports are classified in China as sea ports with an annual cargo throughput above 15 million tonnes and river ports with an annual cargo throughput above 10 million tonnes.From January to April, cargo throughput in those large ports jumped 20.2 percent year on year to about 2.48 billion tonnes, the ministry said.About 206.5 million tonnes of goods were exported via the large ports during the January-April period, up 27.2 percent from a year ago.Container throughput rose 22.4 percent year on year to 436.81 million TEUs in the first four months, according to the ministry.

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has allocated another 200 million yuan (29.3 million U.S. dollars) to quake relief in the northwest Qinghai Province on top of 500 million yuan already earmarked, the Ministry of Finance said Friday.The funds will support relief efforts, including resettlement, subsidy on daily necessities, medical care, epidemic prevention, re-opening of schools, and infrastructure repairs, according to the ministry's website.The ministry ordered timely allotment and tightened management of the relief funds to help the quake-affected residents to restore production and life as early as possible.The 7.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Qinghai's Yushu prefecture on April 14 had left at least 2,200 people dead, with more than 100,000 homeless.
