(KGTV) - A Ramona couple walking their yellow Labrador puppy say they were attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday night, suffering serious injuries.Michael Dougherty was walking with his wife, Dee, in the Kmart parking lot in the 1800 block of Main Street training their puppy, Rueger. Dougherty said it's easier in the parking lot, as there is more light, compared to their rural neighborhood.As they walked toward the Taco Shop, around 7:15 p.m., Dougherty said from the corner of his eye, he saw two pit bulls charging.RELATED: Dog and owner mauled by pit bull during walk in OceansideThey attacked Rueger and his wife, who went down trying to rescue the dog. Dougherty is recovering from a back injury and walks with a cane. He used it as a weapon."I just started beating the dog, beating the dog, until it [the cane] snapped. This fell down alongside the dog and my wife and she grabbed this and was jamming it into the dog's mouth. When this broke I started punching the dog in the head."Eventually they were able to separate all three dogs. No one escaped uninjured. "Her thumb was bitten three quarters of the way around," saying the skin had been pushed up, away from her hand. Everyone is searching for ways to help not just the families and firefighters, but the animals deprived of their homes. A woman from the tiny town of Rainbow is hoping her handiwork will help the Australian wildlife in a big way.Symphony Ariosta, 31, is a true animal lover. "I love animals. If I could, I would run a rescue myself," Ariosta said. Scientists at the University of Sydney estimate at least one billion animals have been killed in the months-long wildfires. Seeing the images of the animals and the flames on the news reminded Ariosta of the tragedy her family experienced in the 2007 Rice Canyon Fire in Fallbrook. "It's heartbreaking," Ariosta said. "I feel, no matter where in the world you are, if you can help, why not?"She wondered what she could do without breaking the bank. She searched online and found "Rescue Craft Co," a group dedicated to handicrafts."There's wildlife pouches, there are bat wraps, there are little marsupial bags, hanging pouches," Ariosta explained. "Bringing everyone together in that way over a common kind of unifier has really just made a huge difference, and it's brought our community together as well," Ariosta said. PROVO, Utah — Unproven conspiracy theories about COVID-19 have caused a group of people to try and breach a local hospital, officials say.The group, fueled by the unsubstantiated theory that hospitals are misrepresenting capacity levels, has attempted to break into the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.The hospital recently reported during a Provo City Council meeting "that a few individuals without a medical need have attempted to gain physical access to the facility with the intent try to confirm fake conspiracy theories — such as hospitals are not busy and that reports of the COVID-19 surge are false."It was unclear if anyone was arrested or cited for the disturbances."Hospital staff have also fielded some telephone calls regarding similar false conspiracy theories. Although these situations are few and isolated, stopping attempts to gain inappropriate access and responding to fake conspiracy theories diverts attention from providing lifesaving care provided at the hospitals," said Intermountain Healthcare, which operates Utah Valley Hospital, in a statement. "COVID-19 is real and the hospital is seeing large increases in patients with the virus. Staff are stretched and are working many extra hours to meet community needs.
